Budget: 400. Might do 500 if there’s a big jump in quality

Use will be mainly for videos of outdoors and hiking. Travel to a lot of windy places so that needs to be considered

Fairly small that needs to fit into a day pack with other essentials

Atleast an hour use time, I think that’s plenty as I would only make a couple videos at best per day

USB and/or Wi-Fi uploading (if this isn’t standard)

Improbably missing other features that matter ,but this is all I got

I have the DJI Mavic Air 2. I use mine for storm chasing(Tornados, damage, and any major meterological event). I got a lot of footage of the snow in North Mississippi the last few days.

It's by far my favorite gadget I've owned. It cost me around $650-700. Its the best drone you can get under $1000. 34 min flight time, 10km range, obstacle avoidance, 4k 60fps footage, and level 5 wind resistance.

I had a $300 Holy Stone and wrecked it the first week I had it. Could barely handle 15mph wind and doesn't have the obstacle avoidance. Its just a cheap Chinese piece of shite.

I also owned a DJI Mavic Mini 2...and it flies well....but you are f*cking up if you don't get a drone with obstacle avoidance.

Obstacle avoidance is the #1 most critical feature I look for in a drone.

The only advantages of the mini's are the weight and the price. Since it's under 255g, you don't have to register it with the FAA for recreational flight. My Mavic Air 2 is 500g, and I use mine for storm chasing....so I had to register mine with the FAA. I also had to get a Part 107 Commercial Drone Pilot Certification so I can license/sell my storm footage. I can also fly near uncontrolled airports and certain restricted zones without contacting flight control tower with my Part 107 cert.

DJI Mavic Air 2

No doubt the best drone for the money with respect to drone quality, flight times, range, camera quality, sensors, etc.

The DJI Mavic 3 is even better on every spec, but not worth the minimum of twice the price.

Late to this thread, but I recently got the DJI Mini 2 and it is awesome. Shoots 4K video and everything. Watched a few videos about it before flying it for the first time and then I was off and running without much difficulty.

This is my first drone and I feel like it is the perfect drone for someone who is new to the drone world, but it also has enough capability that you don’t quickly outgrow it as your skills get better.

+1, Bounced mine off the BIL's house, new blades and back at it. I use litchi 100% of the time with this drone.

I've got a Parrot Anafi that I really like for the video capability. Camera can aim straight down to straight up. Only 2 axis gimbal but the simulated 3rd works very well cornering. Has a modest zoom too.

Before you buy DJI read this, they are #1 in the market, but maybe we should reconsider that position and look for other options. I’ve decided to retire my Mavic.
