No Way Woodward Showed His Cards

Hi there. First time poster as I have read a lot on the site over the years. The melt down over the Lincoln Riley rejection finally got to me enough to want to say something.
I think that LSU fans need to take deep breaths and trust that the best AD in the country is doing his job the right way. What is the right way you might ask? Behind the scenes with no leaks. That means that no one like Ross Dellenger gets the scoop before the deal goes down.
Having worked in corporate America for a long time, big deals always get NDA's signed up front with the key players that are involved. If there are any leaks, I suspect that are intended for misdirection only. Last night, as people were talking about "verbal agreements" I knew that it was dead in the water. Also, with LSU coach Will Wade and LSU players and recruits picking up Riley as followers on Twitter, there is no way (and I mean NO WAY) that Woodward allows that with real information under his watch. Will Wade knows no more about the football coaching search than you or I. You can liken that to leaking information critical to the SEC before a merger and acquisition goes public. You just don't do it, and I don't suspect that was real. So, who is our guy? I don't know, but I bet we will be happy with them. Also, I do believe he has been wrapped up for a while. I don't think there is any scrambling going on. It's just not the way Woodward has worked in the past. Should be interesting so hang on and hang in there. Good times are coming.
Lastly, take a hard look at Lincoln Riley and tell me that is what we want. I have failed to be impressed with him as anything other than a good offensive coach that produces good quarterbacks, but one that seems to have trouble getting his teams over the top. His defenses are well below average IMO. Last night, OU was awful at times in all three phases of the game. Same goes for $95 mil Fisher.

Why do y'all keep propping up this legend of Woodward when he hasn't been all that impressive?

Have to strongly disagree here. Bringing Peterson to UDub, Jimbo to $AtM$, and Mulkey to LSU says a lot about his process.
Look at the LSU baseball search….nearly identical to this point. There were a ton of names that seem to be a good fit and then BOOM, J Johnson at our doorstep.
With people, past behavior is the strongest indicator of future behavior.

Hey Scott bout time you started posting

Bringing Peterson to UDub
UW was Peterson's dream school and the only one he'd leave Boise for. It wasn't some big coup.

Jimbo to $AtM$
That was a bad hire. Possibly really bad. Also he overpaid a ton for that hire and that's the only reason it happened.

Mulkey to LSU
Oh wow, we overpaid for a WBB coach. PRINT THE SHIRTS

A 3rd/4th option at a lesser sport. Again, great?

So SW will overpay coaches to take jobs and have a so-so success rate in doing so, while promoting unimportant sports on equal footing with the one that matters.

He definitely let the Riley rumors run too far if Riley isn’t the coach.
He could have easily asked a reporter to run an article to slow the rumor mill down.

Judging that off of what? The world series contender and the top 3 Women's basketball coach of all time hires? Yeah he knows nothing about making good hires.

If he hires Stoops then frick Woodward.

Peterson - while it was his dream school, he turned down a number of other jobs that were higher paying. And you still had to get the deal done.
Jimbo to AtM was a coup. And I’ll disagree, it was a great hire. To take a coach that won a title from that school and sign him to a long term contract is huge.
I do agree he overpaid.
Stealing Mulkey was an absolute coup. She built the Baylor WB-Ball program. Won two titles, that was solid.
I disagree about J Johnson. From what I know, he was one of the top 3 candidates from the start. He also rebuilt Arizona to be a powerhouse in the PAC-12. Dude was a home run hire in my mind.
Woodward may have swung and missed in LR but he didn’t show all of his cards.

If we really did strike out last night after the game with Riley, shouldn’t we expect the Lsu jets to be wheels up bright and early? Makes me think we already have our guy.

Because he was holding out for UW.
It's not some coup to hire a guy at the one school he'd leave his current school for. That's like the most baseline level of expectations.

Jimbo has sucked while being paid like an elite coach. It was a shitty hire, he overpaid, and only go the shitty hire by overpaying.

He overpaid for a WBB coach. It literally doesn't even register on the radar.

Because y'all believe anything SW does is great. Of course you will bargain to where his hires (who haven't done anything) are great. Hell, you're defending him hiring Jimbo

Woody is a money guy, that's it.
Overpaying is his MO. With this much money available, there's no reason for less than a "white whale."

Yeah because that turned out great! A complete waste of money and I am glad we did not get stuck with him.
Woodward’s only big hire is Mulkey. She’s awesome! BUT womens basketball is not football. I don’t know what Woodward cards are, but so far I think he is definitely not what this forum thinks he is. I hope am wrong. But I believe we’re going to be disappointed.

BULL shite. That is absolutely wrong. Absolutely.

Aggie would disagree to the point they extended him for a lot more than 7. While most on here saw it as overpaid for a min, the market caught and passed him due to the length of the contract. Turns out it was a bargain for a National Championship coach.
quote:I bet you shop at Harbor Freight. You want quality you don’t go shopping at a junk store. She is a 3 X National Champion and already has changed the culture in a few months. Look around for a min before you open your trap moron at WBB coaches salaries. Now look at ASSES IN THE STANDS.

quote:I know you’re telling. He was NEVER the third or fourth option. He had his team in the CWS and has just signed the number 1 recruiting class. All things point to him as being an excellent coach.

Ya’ll act like he can get anyone he wants. It doesn’t work like that

OK you're way too invested in mythologizing Woodward
This comment invalidates anything you have said
Jimbo sucks and has sucked for a long time. He hasn't sniffed the playoffs in 7 years
