People make up so much shite. Why the hell would you use a rumor that you’re targeting a massive hirbye like Lincoln Riley as misdirection? How the hell would that be beneficial?

I don't think LSU is the source of the rumor at all. The media and fans do that on their own; however, I do think if Woodward wants to protect his search process, he'd be willing to allow information to hint the wrong direction. No one from LSU has said a word. Will Wade following Riley on Twitter...so what? I believe if Woodward has his way, people are going to be completely surprised at what he's done because he kept it wholly under wraps. Honestly, he shouldn't care one iota about public opinion about he works this part of the process. It's his and his alone to run. We can judge it fairly after it's done and new guy has been the coach for a few years. To me, I think we are in good hands. I think we'll be pleased in the end.
While coaching hires are an important measure of an AD's salt, it is not the only one. Woodward has had to navigate a storm of Title IX and NCAA investigation issues, and I believe he has done an excellent job of it. Will Wade, if we are honest, most likely has some fire behind all of the smoke of the FBI tapes, but our old AD Alleva completely took the wrong approach, just as he did when was at Duke. Woodward is methodical and reserved in the way he operates. He offers nothing until he is ready to move, and he loves LSU and does what he does to protect the university. The Coach O decision was multi-faceted - both performance and off the field issue related. Rather than air all of that, we decided to pay Coach O, let him have his dignity and legacy intact, and keep a lid on the information. As far as basketball, we will refuse to give the NCAA squat. Lesson learned to those who have cooperated in the past - it earns you nothing but heavy penalties.

Do I think he is the best? Yes I do. Glad he is running the show and not Alleva, otherwise, we'd be calling up Pete Richardson out of retirement from Southern as a last minute fallback.

No Way Woodward Showed His Cards

Hi there. First time poster as I have read a lot on the site over the years. The melt down over the Lincoln Riley rejection finally got to me enough to want to say something.

I think that LSU fans need to take deep breaths and trust that the best AD in the country is doing his job the right way. What is the right way you might ask? Behind the scenes with no leaks. That means that no one like Ross Dellenger gets the scoop before the deal goes down.

Having worked in corporate America for a long time, big deals always get NDA's signed up front with the key players that are involved. If there are any leaks, I suspect that are intended for misdirection only. Last night, as people were talking about "verbal agreements" I knew that it was dead in the water. Also, with LSU coach Will Wade and LSU players and recruits picking up Riley as followers on Twitter, there is no way (and I mean NO WAY) that Woodward allows that with real information under his watch. Will Wade knows no more about the football coaching search than you or I. You can liken that to leaking information critical to the SEC before a merger and acquisition goes public. You just don't do it, and I don't suspect that was real. So, who is our guy? I don't know, but I bet we will be happy with them. Also, I do believe he has been wrapped up for a while. I don't think there is any scrambling going on. It's just not the way Woodward has worked in the past. Should be interesting so hang on and hang in there. Good times are coming.

Lastly, take a hard look at Lincoln Riley and tell me that is what we want. I have failed to be impressed with him as anything other than a good offensive coach that produces good quarterbacks, but one that seems to have trouble getting his teams over the top. His defenses are well below average IMO. Last night, OU was awful at times in all three phases of the game. Same goes for $95 mil Fisher.
