Anyone depressed

SAD is a real thing

Both are very real. I do believe there is a difference though. Being sad is generally pretty temporary. I think people who are depressed have lost hope in a major core value. When you lose hope, you lose meaning of life (in some aspects of your life).

I would recommend figuring out what you value in life, and prioritize those thing appropriately. Pain in not optional in life, but suffering is. Do not sit around and mope. Take action on something. Find a problem in life, and hit it head on - true happiness comes from solving life's problems (which never end by the way).

Keep your head up!

Yep. Winter sucks. I love sun and heat, hate cold and short daylight hrs

I resisted antidepressants for yrs. Gave in and it helps. But nothing beats exercise and being outdoors even if just bs yardwork.

Also, just talking to people, face-to-face general stuff.

I'm sure it's not the answer for all situations, but I can't believe how much a good diet has helped me

"I was never gonna get off that island. I was gonna die there, totally alone. I was gonna get sick, or get injured or something. The only choice I had, the only thing I could control was when, and how, and where it was going to happen. So... I made a rope and I went up to the summit, to hang myself. I had to test it, you know? Of course. You know me. And the weight of the log, snapped the limb of the tree, so I-I - , I couldn't even kill myself the way I wanted to. I had power over *nothing*. And that's when this feeling came over me like a warm blanket. I knew, somehow, that I had to stay alive. Somehow. I had to keep breathing. Even though there was no reason to hope. And all my logic said that I would never see this place again. So that's what I did. I stayed alive. I kept breathing. And one day my logic was proven all wrong because the tide came in, and gave me a sail. And now, here I am. I'm back. In Memphis, talking to you. I have ice in my glass... And I've lost her all over again. I'm so sad that I don't have Kelly. But I'm so grateful that she was with me on that island. And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?”

What's helped me is to find a routine and stick to it. Force yourself to accomplish your daily routine/schedule until this wave of depression recedes somewhat.

Have you tried a light box? Supposedly they help and they’re inexpensive.

My SAD really gets going hard after the start of the year. January is usually an awful month for me as far as mental health is concerned. Nothing serious, but man, I hate it. Typically by February we start having a random "warm" day that boosts my spirits. January here is typically 33 degrees and rain. It just beats you down.

This was 9 or 10 years ago, but I struggled with depression and anxiety.

I went to the doctor and had a bunch of test ran. I had an extremely low vitamin D level.

My doctor explained to me that when your body doesn't get enough VD it pulls it from your bone marrow and that can cause all sorts of issues.

I was also having back pain that I couldn't seem to figure out what it was.. My doctor at the time completely missed ulcers I had on my gallbladder which eventually had me in tears one night and had to be rushed to the hospital to have it removed.

In summary, between that situation, taking VD and making myself get out more (I was at a point where I would avoid going places, just felt down and out) and I eventually got it under control, but it wasn't fun to deal with.

I think mine was more of a result of my phyical state at the time (the problems with low VD and gallbladder situation), but it sucked.
