First episode was okay. The beginning with Spike kicking the coin was cringy but it's been awhile since I've watched the anime so I don't remember if that happened or not. No Ed yet.
The opening was a rework of the opening to the movie, using a casino instead of a convenience store.
I'm three episodes in, and it's just okay. Not good, but not too bad, either. It is very cringy during a lot of scenes, and not really what I was expecting. The interviews made it sound like they were going to add to the story instead of remaking it, but yea, seems more like a reboot than a companion piece to the anime.

Casting couldn’t be worse. Spike is way too old, the actor who plays Jett cannot pull off his personality and Faye’s character is going to be unrecognizable in the story. It’s just another reboot using a popular name that will be totally disconnected from the original.

I don’t know the source material well as I mentioned but I’m 4 episodes in and enjoying.
Just fun and quirky. My expectations were low but I enjoyed watching more than WoT and I’ve been anticipating WoT for years.
Maybe because I’m like “y’all f’d up something I love.” Vs “this is something I’m mildly familiar with and have 0 expectations of.”

I am a big fan of the original and I am 4 episodes in and really like it. The live action has the look and feel of the anime. They added a lot of new scenes for Vicious. The humor is outstanding. This is one of the best anime live action that I have seen. They used the original music and it’s on point. Outside of being cringy sometimes, I don’t have anything negative to say about it so far.

I feel like I am at the same point I am with WoT, I am not familiar with the source material and I like it fine. Not great (yet?) but worth the watch.
I have never watched more than a few seconds of anime and know nothing of Cowboy Bebop other than it was a very successful show about a space bounty hunter but I do like live-action that is highly stylized. I think animation to live-action is an almost impossible bridge. At least with adaptations of written material the only visual bars to clear are in the reader's heads.

After watching the first episode, besides the fact it was almost exactly like episode 1 of the anime I think they nail the aesthetics. Fight scenes seem a little slow though

This show feels like an alternate universe version of Bebop. The characters have similar backgrounds but most of the story is significantly different. No surprise, the changes are not improvements. The plot is straight forward. It lacks the nuance of the original. The original is poetry. This is prose.
The actors have good chemistry. Mustafa Shakir is incredible as Jet. The writing and acting are on point. John Cho is good, not great. He just doesn’t have the charisma or athleticism to pull off Spike. Daniella Pineda is great as the character based on Faye. She delivers the most touching scene in the series.
It was decent. Better writing and a bigger budget for the sets/CGI would have helped.

I like it but have to laugh at Cho and his hair.

I’m liking the series kind of like a Quentin Tarantino cheese to. Some of the scenes are way overacted but adds to the overall character of the show.
I have no idea what the original is like or what anime is.

I'm trying to power through and finish this. Every scene with Vicious is so, so bad though. I'm okay with the cast (even Faye) but the dialogue is awful.

Just rolled through the new Netflix series. I’ve never seen the original, only heard about it generally and how revered it is.
I loved it. The music was killer. The cinematography was awesome. I didn’t try to nitpick it at all and just wanted to watch it for what it was. Saw some comments about the casting but I thought the main three were great and all carried their own weight.
I’m definitely gonna go watch the original. I see 1 season on Netflix with 26 episodes. Is that the extent of it?

Never seen the anime.
Really enjoyed the series. The show goes from meh to fun and enjoyable when Faye started to get more screen time. I really like the style of the show.

The show only ran for one season. There is also a movie.

I'm about halfway through the anime after watching the live action.
The biggest thing is that, unless they have flashbacks showing the crew of the Bebop having previous interactions with Ed in Season 2, introducing her at the end of Season 1 will make absolutely no sense and will go up in flames in season 2.

Just finished it last night. I think it got better as the season went on. Overall, I like it and look forward to a second season.

I kind of like this show, I never saw the original so nothing to compare it too, but so far it's a fun show. Just finished episode 1

The depiction of Jet in the Netflix show is better. It gives him more depth.
The depiction of Julia in the Netflix show is great. In the original Anime she appeared in 2 episodes total.
I'm not sure if I like the new Vicious. In the Anime he was like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, ever present but not seen until much later in the story.
Faye is far better done in the Anime. In the Netflix show they never once touch on how horrible in debt she is as a result of her cryofreeze (spoiler: she's 75 years old).
Introducing Ed at the end was a very bad move. In the Anime, she creates a fake bounty to get the crew's attention then worms her way into their crew. They'd better expand on this in Season 2 in flashbacks or they could lose the audience due to how absolutely fricking bizarre she is.
I don't know what to think about Spike. The Netflix series gives him a lot more depth but the Anime makes him a more fun character.

Good to hear some are enjoying it. I haven’t watched yet, but love the anime. Was worried they wouldn’t do a good job. I will watch soon.

Maybe not great, but I'm enjoying it so far. Like the style and music. Never watched all of animé and it's been a long time since then. Do they have the mushroom episode in the new show? That's one I def remember and enjoyed.
