Anyone have any experience in laying sod this time of year? Is it a waste of money heading into the winter? or should I wait till spring?

I'd wait till spring. It's going to be extremely difficult to get it to root this late in the year.

I laid ten pallets once in December, no issues.

I'm in the same boat. I just had my lawn regraded. I've read mixed opinions on how it takes in the winter. I decided to play it safe, and I'm laying rye grass seed until we get closer to spring. Not to mention, I'm in no rush to spend another $4-5K on 18 pallets of zoysia. My tractor guy says they put sod down year-round. I've seen some things here suggesting the watering in the winter to establish can bring on fungal issues.

I have two rough boys and I'd be afraid of them tearing it up over the next few months before it greens up.

I sell sod in north Georgia everyday of the year! Just keep it moist. You won’t have any problem.

Plenty of experience. No issues doing so. Need to keep it watered, but water in the AM so it doesn't stay wet overnight or else you might introduce mold/mildew/fungus type stuff.

OP: Shouldn't have any problems in Nov, but depending on what area you are in you you may need to adjust how often you water. Personally, I am waiting until March to have my yard regraded and new sod laid down

Is this bermuda?
I need to get some St Augustine down, but was thinking Dec might be too late.

You will be fine as long as the soil is prepared (doesn't have air pockets). You will have brown spots where the air pockets are. Make sure you pay attention to watering (especially after dry and windy days).

Would this be the same as Brown Patch? My Centipede was laid in June. Brown Patch is on my yard now. Yard is sloped. It could be these spots are from air pockets???

I just had some sod laid myself. What type of watering schedule would be recommended? I’m using a sprinkler to water 20 minutes a day if it hasn’t rained. I plan doing that for 2 weeks then go to 3 times a week.

Was it rolled? I always liked to water so the soil was pretty damp before I put it down then roll it. It needs to have good contact with the soil below.

You’ll be ok. I don’t like to do it in the fall it’s brown and can have sort of a delayed green up. The root system is still very much alive and will root down.

Did it last November myself (Zoysia). Grass took longer to come out of dormancy than I would like and weeds set in. Got that under control in the summer. Next summer will focus on leveling the lawn. Don’t think you will have any major issues.
