I appreciate the offer. My brother is going to do it when he gets off work. It's just so personal and wanted to do it myself.

Thanks again for all the support.

Next dog, keep it fenced or on a leash. It's not the dog's fault it got hit by a car.

*apologies to OP. I meant it as constructive dialogue, not meant to rub salt in the wound.

Those first hours after an accident like this with a pet are tough. Always remember the great life your dog enjoyed, especially if she loved everyone - a sign of a happy pet.

If you can't bury her, cremation of pets can be nice.

We had to put my dog down a couple weeks ago. She was 14 and was my wife and I’s first pet. It is rough dude and I wish I could say it gets better but the pain just gets a little more numb.

I still see her reflection in the back door trying to come in the house or expect her to meet me at the door when I walk in.

No words of encouragement from me other than to grieve. Only way to get through it.

The first part is so true. There was a place in Sldell that does pet cremations. They were so kind

We have a fence for the backyard. We have been very careful to not to let them get out. My dog has a sister that we rescued too. My daughter was out in front and noticed the other dog by the road and went running for her. My daughter almost got hit by a car getting her when she noticed the other dog on the her side. She licked her twice and pasted away. This is why I asked for prayers. Could have been worse. Just can't figure how they got out.

Prayers for you and sorry for your loss.

Your thread brings back bad memories.
When I was teen I had to do the same thing.

I'm not going to quote what you said, but it was uncalled for and just plain mean. Seeing the OP's post to you should result in an apology from you.

OP, praying for you and your family. Having a pet slip out when you don't realize it happens and it's gut wrenching when the result is like yours. Been there.

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion.
There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price.” – Dean Koontz
