Why would Aranda turn us down?

Assuming that’s what happened. We’re definitely a big step up from Baylor. I can understand Jimbo and Riley passing on this job… to them, this would basically be a horizontal move with maybe more potential than where they are. Maybe Aranda doesn’t want the pressure?

Aranda reminds me so much of Saban, both so focused and driven. Aranda loves LSU, does Woodward love Aranda?

I imagine if we miss the top tier and Aranda ends up elsewhere, it's because we never offered him. Take it up with SW

Where has this been reported? Or is this pure conjecture on your part.

Unless something happened between Aranda and Woody on Dave’s way out, I can’t imagine he’d turn us down.

Unless he already has a back door agreement to take over Bama when Saban retires.

The WTF Aranda conclusion I always imagined was him ending up in the NFL. Like out of nowhere.

Not exactly sure why but I always got an NFL vibe from Aranda. Maybe because of the perception (unsubstantiated) that he doesn’t love recruiting. Or maybe because he’s really smart and I get the vibe he’s limited in what stuff he can run on defense based on what his players can handle mentally. NFL would open up that part.

The Matt Rhule comparison is low hanging fruit coming from Baylor, but I think a guy like Brandon Staley is more of a blueprint for him as a candidate (young, intelligent, creative defensively). I also think Dave’s calm, professional demeanor and talking to his players like they’re grown men would play well.

Aranda seems loyal and he may not bail on Baylor at this time. I hope I’m wrong

If Aranda turns us down, and then goes to USC and turns them into a powerhouse, I might give up sports.

Aranda is my first choice (over riley and jimbo).

1 - Pressure
2 - He's a socal guy and USC is open
3 - He can own the Big 12 for a long time at Baylor

It would be that he either already has his mind set on USC or maybe he has bad blood in Baton Rouge that we are not privy too.

School wise LAU is a huge step up in programs, but living in BR or the area may just suck too much for him to come back.

I’m guessing we have not made Aranda an offer to turn down. If Woodward is truly waiting for an answer from someone else, he can’t throw around offers to others.. he can gauge interest, but perhaps Aranda is much lower on Woodward’s list than mine.

Do the potential Title IX sanctions not also take away from the attractiveness of the LSU job? I am not saying LSU gets any, but there is an active NCAA investigation going on isn't there? LSU is definitely a top job, but with the volatility of coaching jobs, is a coach not going to consider that?

Probably because BR isn’t paved with gold like most people around here think.
