We got NWA in Monroe in 89 baw.

I graduated HS in '90 so I kind of formed my identity in the late 80's. My buddies and I kind of gravitated to the outdoors and we all got into hunting/fishing/camping out (excuse to drink all night with no curfew)/riding 3-wheelers/hydro-sliding on the bayou. However, our passion was duck hunting and for that reason I am gonna have to give a slight edge to the 90's since we were coming off some shite duck seasons in the late 80's.

Then use wired earbuds and rip your own high bitrate mp3s and enjoy quite literally a thousand cassettes worth in a smaller package with no ff/rw or tape flipping/swapping.

I'm far more worried about my Cerwin-Vegas damaging the foundation than any of that.

80s cars absolutely suck dick compared to 60s and 70s, music is far worse too

That’s the thing. Not many kids could afford cars that were built in the 80’s while in the 80’s. We all drove 70’s vehicles. Every now and then you’d see a rich kid with a Porsche or an IROC Z but it was mostly muscle cars back in the day.

I so agree. Everything was 10X better then than it is now. 70s and 80s were awesome!

Was born way back in ‘50 so I am really a child of the 60s and 70s. A year in Nam sucked in ‘69 but before and after they were pretty damn good. Aside from the normal teen angst and the world coming apart … the music, movies and lovin’ were great.

My kids grew up in the 80s and 90s and they seemed happy. The 80s marked the end of our country’s innocence to me.

I think if I could have lived from 1950-2000, I could have died happily at 50. And I also probably would have.

Well I did, and beyond. I was 50 in 2000 and it was cool, until I had a heart attack at 53. The last 18 years have all been gravy and I’ve loved it all. Will be married 50 years next Saturday.

Yeah, the 80s, I was in my 30s and it was great, just wish I knew it was going to be the last of the great decades.

I assume you are either saying Egyptian Lover was not on 8 track or 8 tracks were not part of the 80's.

Correct. I'm sure there were some left over in early 80s, but LP's and ESPECIALLY cassettes were the 80s.

8trac is straight 70s

I totally agree they were straight 70's as far as popularity, but they were definitely still around in the early and mid 80s. My cousins William and Cheryl had an 8trac player and introduced my 7-8 year old self to the Footloose soundtrack on 8trac. LINK

The early 80s were pretty bleak times. I think 1984 truly was Morning in America. That lasted until about 1996.

It was time when the Greatest Generation ran the country and Gen X defined the culture. Unfortunately not enough time or people to fend off the Boomers getting political power and the Millienials getting their iPhones.

So i am in my 40s, and i just watched Beverly Hills Cop for the first time in my life…. I somehow missed it in the 1980s, even though i read that BHC was the #1 all-time Betamax rental, and my family were early adopters of the Betamax (#humblebrag)…. Basically, i thought- it isnt a bad movie.. i just think it was very much ‘of its time’, and i dont see how i could possibly watch it in 2022 and get what made it so popular way back then…. I think with the exception of certain timeless films like Back to the Future, A Few Good Men, Goodfellas et al- most old movies lose a little something with the passage of time … but the 80s definitely rocked, overall .

This is non debatable... Everything from music to quality of life was 10 times better than the clusterfrick we live in today... You can call me an old head or anything you want but nothing compares to what we had back in the day. Nothing like rolllin’ around in a car with an 8 trac blaring some Egyptian Lover or Nucleus. Couldn’t beat those times.
As long as you weren't in the middle east. It was the last decade of multiple hijackings. We did have a kickass president who didn't apologize for his belief in American Greatness. He made sure Grenada didn't become another socialist island. When Libya got caught red handed he sent in the bombers and lit Tripoli up.

I do have to call you out on the 8 track. That belongs to the 70s. Cassette tapes held the majority of the decade along with vinyl. The 90s and 00s were the worst for audiophiles. CDs and early digital media of classic rock couldn't hold a candle to the sound of vinyl.

FWIW, I became a teenager at the turn of the decade. There is a big delineation with Family Ties & Van Halen on one side and 90210 & Pearl Jam on the other. I'm jealous of those who were 10 years older in the 80s but do have to remind myself that unlike them I had internet and mobile phone usage during my college years (avoiding class registration lines.)
