Glancing at the upcoming SEC mens basketball schedule, I noticed how incredibly challenging the first 7 games are to start the SEC season. 6 of the first 7 are against preseason ranked teams. Only Florida is unranked (AP Poll) and we play them in Gainesville. Boot up boys!

Beginning Dec 29th, we open with…

@ Auburn (#22)
vs Kentucky (#10)
vs Tennessee (#18)
@ Florida (n/r)
vs Arkansas (#16)
@ Alabama (#14)
@ Tennessee (#18)

Finally on Jan 26th the schedule eases up. We play several currently unranked teams including TAM, Ole Miss, Vandy, TAM, Miss St, UGA & USC.

The end of the season is brutal also as we end with…

@Kentucky
vs Missouri
@ Arkansas
vs Alabama

We play 5 teams twice this year and they are Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas and A&M. Will Wade and his team have their work cut out for them. Geaux Tigers! Should be fun!

Brutal start that you need to try and go 4-3.
Then make hay in the middle, setting up for a stretch run

5-2 would be awesome in that stretch

Y'all are stuck in the old days of LSU Basketball. I think Will Wade probably looks at those 7 games & thinks "if we win all of these games, We'll be in the top 5."

Over the last 3 seasons NO ONE has been better than LSU to start SEC play. If you combine the first 7 games of each of those seasons LSU is 19-2 in that 21 game period. More incredible is they only have ONE road loss during that stretch. That said, they will have to once again be ready to go at the start of SEC play because this year's first seven are brutal (on paper)

Over the last 3 years Wade's teams have somewhat followed the same trajectory. Perform ok (but not great) in Nov/Dec non conference games...generally losing 1-3 games during that stretch they probably shouldn't...before starting conference play red hot.

Even though it will likely look better in the end of the year metrics than on paper, this year's OOC schedule may be the least daunting LSU has had in the last 4 seasons. There isn't a single game on there you look at and say that could be a 50/50 game. Even one loss in Nov/Dec (not counting Auburn) could be disappointing. More that one definitely would be.

A 4-3 SEC start should be the preseason goal for that stretch. Anything better, then we'll probably know LSU is a true SEC Championship contender. Anything worse, and we'll probably know LSU could be a good team...but not a top tier SEC team this year.

I agree… 4-3, then 6-1/7-0 in the next 7
Setting up for 3-1 home stretch.
That’s 13-5…. Should be top4 and strong ncaa seed

John Brady had a similar schedule at the start of 2006 and went 7-0. Are you saying Brady was a better coach than tPear?

Tough schedule for sure. Optimistic view is tons of opportunity for Quad 1 wins.

The fricking bummer is the propagandists in sports media will move all of those teams out of the Top 25 before putting us between 21-25.

Propaganda is only effective if you fall for it.

that schedule is awesome! if we can succeed against those first 7 at a reasonable rate, we're climbing the rankings and moving up in bracketology. way better than bashing a bunch of nobodies and hoping the blowout scores are enough to get you noticed.

I wish Adam Miller wouldn't have gotten hurt, I really was looking forward to watching him play.

While it may seem difficult, these will all be Quad 1 games, with those 4 road games all potentially being big tourney resume building wins if we can get it done. As others have said we generally start out very strong in SEC play, and the SEC has gotten much much stronger as a basketball league in recent years. Would rather a brutal or tough conference schedule than a 3-4 bid league where you stack conference wins up but does little come selection sunday. The Trent Johnson year is a prime example where we got royally screwed with an 8/9 game then had to play a dominant UNC team and probably gave them their best game of the whole tourney.

2-5 would be good for this squad.
