quote:
A leading US conservation group, the Audubon Naturalist Society has announced it will change its name, due to the “pain” caused by the 19th-century ornithologist and slaveholder John James Audubon.
Audubon achieved lasting fame for his detailed studies and illustrations of American birds, made in the early 19th century.
More recently, he has come under scrutiny for his buying and selling of enslaved people in the 1820s; for his objections to the abolitionist movement; and for writings that portrayed black and indigenous people as inferior to whites.
Audubon, who was born in modern-day Haiti but moved to the US before dying in New York in 1851, took five human skulls from a battlefield in Texas and sent them to Samuel Morton, a doctor who attempted to determine differences that he claimed showed varying intelligence levels between races.

Hopefully they lose funds while they're at it.

I guess the New Orleans Audubon Zoo is on the clock.

We need to be fair... most people (white, black, brown, or green) would be pretty racist if they'd had to grow up in Haiti.

Now they are going after my favorite artist.
Enough is enough.

Just take a look at those two sentences for a second, and realize we're in fantasy land.
"More recently he has come under scrutiny?" The guy's been deader than dead since pre Civil War!

Yeah, I don't see the playbook for how this happens at this point.

Haiti wasn’t what it is today. Most of what you see now is a direct result from ending slavery.

We can also add the bridge in St. Francisville.
Unfortunately, it may be a while since there are only 5 vehicles a day that use that 400 million dollar bridge. Not enough traffic to fuel the rage.

More like the televangelists from the eighties. They will be exposed in scandal, and their own followers will turn on them.
So, maybe more like Robespierre...

ANS said a new name will be chosen following a “deliberate and thoughtful process of listening and learning” with its members and other nature enthusiasts.
I wonder if they are going to take suggestions from the general public - I could suggest something like "Bird, McBird Face Society".

Why aren't they more worried about the birds being carved up by those ugly effin windmills? Because they really don't give a shid about birds, they scuttle donations to leftist causes.

Let's rename the Audubon Naturalist Society after a bird....

Audubon would have been better off being murdered in the Slave Revolt of 1804. Anyone who was any color other than 100% African or Polish (yep) was in danger of begin executed.
Where do you think the word Zombie came from?
What bothers me the most is that Audubon was a very poor man who barely earned enough to support his family.
Let the society return all the funds raised by people who contributed to an unjust cause.
