A muscle group I’ve definitely neglected, is there anything besides calf raises that y’all have had luck with? There’s got to be other good ways even if you have to be creative.

777 recommended Doggcrapp calf training on here before and it worked for me for a while. But I find that my calves respond best to frequency. Also when doing calf raises focus on pushing through your big toe to get some more activation

So you can hit calves 3-5x a week if you want? I’ve heard that due to angles and shapes that even different shoes can lightly work calf muscles without overtraining and risking injury. Just a stubborn muscle group.

I just do calf raises, a lot of slant board work, and farmers walks on my tip toes.

Obviously ease into bc calf soreness is the worst kind of sorness. But yeah when I was focusing on my calves I would hit them hard 3 days a week, light 3 days a week, and 1 day off. I don't have the greatest calves so my advice may be shite but that's what I made the most improvement with

Become severely overweight for a year then lose all of it, then you'll have some big calves.

Obvious sarcasm.

Volumn.

And sports activities help also to incorporate all the fast twitch muscles also to get them full as possible.

Yeah I figure volume will be important. I imagine running up and down stairs can help get it done too

So if I start with 3x a week and gradually increase intensity, would it be reasonable to aim for insane volume? Of course I will have to work up to it

I’m thinking over a period of 3-6 months, work up to 5,000-10,000 reps on calf exercises. Would this pay off or lead to injuries or other issues when I get older?

Bottom line is that I’ve neglected lower body due to herniated disc.

DC calve training or BFR training in them with high frequency for 8-12 weeks

A lot of it is genetic. My brother hasn't worked his calves in year and they're huge. Me, on the other hand..

Sled pushing at the right angle.

If you specifically target calves, make sure you also address your anterior shins.

Zero drop shoes will really build calves and your feet as well. Ease into them though.

I do calf raises on the leg press machine .. do a set of 25 and then go right into the full leg press sets.

Gets it all burning and churning

Thanks everyone for the input

And zero drop shoes, have not heard of those but will check out. Are good to wear when in the outdoors?
Have heard heels are good for musculature as well

Two questions:
- Does jump rope help develop calves?
- Do stronger calves help with running?

Been training hard gainer calves all my life. Volume doesn't mean shite if you aren't going slow. Go 5x slower than you're used to, otherwise the achilles will do most of the work.

Unfortunately, the way you walk determines the shape of them. Some people just don't have the inner head, no matter how hard they try. But if you want to hit a head that isn't involved in your locamotion, you really have to tweak the angle of your foot as you raise up.

More bad news: watch out, the weight it takes to really grow your calves is just as likely to give you arch and knee problems.

drown your no-calve sorrows here
