You think a 10 year old is reading Dune?

I assume some type of AI. I don't remember the lore about them not having actual computers anymore but just badass regardless. I loved the transport ships too.

I knew nothing of "Dune" world and absolutely loved this movie for a lot of reasons. The ending worked....I want to see the 2nd part!

My biggest complaint was Rebecca Ferguson as Jennifer. I could not understand a word she was saying in her whispers and had to put on subtitles.
Had this problem as well at an IMAX showing. Seemed like when there was dialog and music, the dialog got drowned out. Maybe it was just a theater problem.
Still at 10/10 experience for me. Never thought the book would be so well done visually on screen.

Definitely possible, which would mean they were all over 10,000 years old. The giant transport ships are Guild Heighliners.
The date at the beginning is the years after the Butlerian Jihad, where humanity rid itself of thinking machines.

It said 10,000. Does that mean 10000 years after that?

A teenager who comes to rule using his mind and magic wielded exclusively by women should have more testosterone? Not sure that would fit. And that's why Duncan and Gurney exist
I think the movie chose an appropriate place to end in terms of a clean break, but I agree with anyone saying it's a bit anticlimactic. We usually get the second episodes of mini-series a week after the first, not 2 or 3 years after.

Yep, 10,000 years after they got rid of thinking machines.

Yes, I do. Hell, I read half of all Michael Crichton books in 3rd grade.

This is my only complaint.
I read that Villeneuve wanted to shoot them back to back but the studio shot it down. WTF???

This is true. What I read was that this movie cost about $200m to make. They wanted to make sure it made money before anyone committed to a sequel. Going to really chap my butt if they don't make it. This movie was absolutely exhilarating. Going back to see it again this week.

Tried to watch it last night with my 12 year old boys. An hour and a half in, they asked if they could watch something else, which I don't remember them ever doing before. It was dull, confusing, and the actors mumbled through half the dialog.
ETA: we watched the rest of the movie last night and the second half is much better. Everything I said about the first half remains true, especially the poor sound quality of the dialog.

Only made 17.5 million on Friday. What does that mean for the weekend? ~40 million?

I had that issue watching on HBO Max. The dialogue was too quiet and the sound effects or music were too loud in a way that had me constantly trying to adjust the volume.

This movie is too complicated and a tad too slow burnish for kids to stay interested in, let alone tolerate at all.
It's a movie made for adults and I think PG-13 really limited the potential for story telling on that basis.

I think you're right. My boys love sci-fi and love good stories in general, but just didn't like this at all.
It also seems like a movie made for existing book fans rather than to attract new fans.

There’s nothing r rated in the books though.

I dont know..is 40 million a good thing now?
Releasing it on HBO max at the same time (day early actually) has to be detrimental
