I certainly don’t think “most” Tiger fans would be that racist - if you don’t think that there is a significant percentage who would be opposed to a coach because of his skin color you are naive.
There is also a difference between a person who believes “race shouldn’t be a factor” and people who preemptively start threads about it.
Mike Tomlin has proven himself to be a great football coach. The difference between him and guys like Lovie Smith, Herm Edwards and Bill Callahan is that he has multiple rings and isn’t a washout. There are some reasonable questions about differences between the pro and college games, but those questions are no more worrisome than the questions every other candidate has.
And I’ll just throw in regarding the “race” issue if you don’t think it exists - compare the reaction to John Gruden vs. Mike Tomlin.

Ryan Clark is the absolute worst. Whoever the next coach is needs to excommunicate him.
He was being 100% serious with his “if you have a problem with Mike Tomlin coming to LSU, you’re a racist” take. Moscona agreed with him as well.
There are legit reasons why you should hesitate on Tomlin and not just throw the bank at him, and Clark even laid some of them out. You have no idea what you’re getting as far as recruiting, program management, booster relations, etc.

There are legit concerns about Tomlin. I didn’t say I wouldn’t hire him, but there should be pause hiring someone from the NFL with no college HC experience. The college job is so much different. Mike doesn’t strike me as a butt kisser, and that’s at least 50% of a college HC’s job.

What reaction? These things haven’t happened. I think the vast majority of Tiger fans would be happy with Tomlin and those that weren’t, it wouldn’t be because he’s black.
I think y’all are running from a racist boogeyman that doesn’t exist.

I do not really want a NFL coach to come here, it seems player development is lacking with the ones we have brought in.

And that's the point. The hardest SOB coach doing what it takes to get the recruits because that's the job. Why wouldn't Tomlin?
