Scott Woodward did the same thing to Tyrone Willingham at Washington. Fired 7 games into the season but retained him until after the season was through.

LSU did Coach O dirty by announcing this after a big win. Its a shame and I am truly appalled by that decision.

What does that really solve?

Woodward's whale knows that the job is his, unlike what Jimbo had to go through waiting on Miles to win each game to keep his job.

Don't care when it happened, so long as it happened. Beating Florida is irrelevant. Too much damage has already been done and a fluke win where your RB sets a school record for rushing doesn't undo any of it.

Has a team ever announced the firing of their coach after a win that wasn’t a bowl game?

Malzahn got fired after a win over Miss St last year. Had a larger buyout than Coach O as well.

That the embarrassment of Orgeron won’t be LSU’s problem in the future. What more do you want?

The man just beat a ranked Florida team at home with a fairly decent crowd for an 11 am game. LSU did Coach O dirty by announcing this after a big win. Its a shame and I am truly appalled by that decision.

Now you know why they released the dirt stories right after the announcement. Had to go for the moral high ground since the optics to the rest of the CFP world was horrible.

It was a win. The fact that beating a 4-3 team is considered big means it was time to go.

I disagree -they should have waited
1 everybody in the sane world knew that he would be replaced (no advantage in the coaching search)
2 why disrupt the teams celebration after one of the greatest improbable wins in LSU history
3 does anyone think that this in some way wont distract from the teams focus for the O Missy game ? which we had a good chance to win
4 This is about the TEAM isnt it
5 Does this give this TEAM a better chance to win more - this year

Charles McClendon, as class an act as you’d ever want to see, went into the 1979 season as a lame duck. LSU allowed him to coach one final season so he could serve as president of the AFCA.

His big crime? An inability to beat Bama and Bear Bryant.

So spare us the Ed O guilt trip.

I think the dirty you are thinking about here is what O did to all those whores when he should have been figuring out how to run the ball and win football games.

That was the last game of the regular season. They didn’t fire him mid-season after a win.

While true, he didn't coach the bowl game. The team had a big celebration in the locker room and then boom, gone seemingly out of nowhere with a $21 mil buyout and for a while it looked like Steele was going to get the job . I know it was almost a year ago but it was a pretty big deal, I think they're comparable enough.

I think Auburn's pretty happy with Harsin so far.

Nope, by pulling this trigger now, you immediately kill any momentum to keep a coach that you know has to go just because he might manage to scrape together a few meaningless wins to end the season, impressive or not.

You should have licked my arse first. We beat them because the players were thrilled about the news and balled out

Wait till he’s coaching with 3 years of his recruits.
