SW is a favorite on this site and a number of posters claim he is the best AD anywhere. I don't know how they arrived at this conclusion, but here are my data points:
1. He presided over the Jimbo Fisher contract at A &M which was huge, if not excessive.
2. He hired Mulkey and paid top dollar (clearly one of the top coaches, but also not far from retirement age;
3. Made a great Hire with Jay Johnson, at 5 yrs. 6.5 million pkg.
4. Extended Orgeron's contract, and paid Ed 8 plus million /yr.
5. Paid Ed the ENTIRE 17 million on buyout (This must be a record buyout?)

A huge part of the job as AD is convincing donors to cover the big costs to be a championship caliber athletic department...obviously he's pretty good at that.

How is this relevant to evaluating an AD’s job performance?

He needs to very expensively extend Will Wade ASAP

So you think there is some secret database of coaches that are willing to work for below market rates?

Because expenses are not the fans problems

Actually it’s not a record. I don’t know if it’s a record, but Auburn paid Gus 21 million last year to take a hike!!

Contrary to popular belief, LSU athletics relies on private and public funds. But like all institutions, its resources are limited. In fact they are more limited than some others in our conference and soon to be in our conference. We do not have an endless supply of money, even with donors and SEC TV money.
My view is that one measure of success of an AD is how well he manages the resources available to him.
The data suggests to me that SW leans toward expensive solutions.
And paying the entire $17 million payout is puzzling and underscores concerns that SW just throws money at problems.

That was a huge hire for A&M

AD pays top dollar for elite coaches, the horror!

I certainly wouldn't have done it, but he's in a position where he needs to show other coaches how they will be treated. Win? You will get rewarded handsomely. Lose and you're toast.

Again, the money didn't matter, and he wanted him gone. It was painless and quick.

TAM fans were calling on Fisher's head until last week, that bought him a few more weeks. Of course, he has a huge buyout.
All you guys do is throw money around and act like it's genius. All those buyouts appear genius like, not.

You know she's only 59, right? She's probably at least 10 years away from retirement. The past few national championships were won by coaches that are older, with exception of Mulkey and the South Carolina coach.
Active WBB coaches with a championship and current age
2021: Stanford - Tara VanDerveer - 68
2019: Baylor - Kim Mulkey - 59
2018: Notre Dame - Muffet McGraw - 65
2017: South Carolina - Dawn Staley - 51
2013-2016: UCONN - Geno Auriemma - 67
2012 - Baylor - Kim Mulkey
2011 - Texas A&M - Gary Blair - 76
So, yeah, I'd say Kim Mulkey has a long way to go before she's looking to retire.

You’re blind if you can’t see Fisher has that program headed in the right direction. Every fan base has unreasonable fans.

The deal he agreed to for Jimbo was absolutely insane. But as someone else said, if he can convince donors to pony up, that’s a talent in and of itself.

Who gives a frick, it doesn't affect you at all, who gives a shite how much it costs.

How does it affect you or the program?
We are still gonna be able to pay the electric bill at the facilities.

Not really. The defense is nice though.
TAM will lose several more games this year.
