Schools aspire to hire the next rock star coach but always go about it by playing it safe with some retread who hasn't been able to get it done.
What else do they need to see out of Fickell?
One loss in the last 3 years (by 3 to Georgia).
2-0 vs UCLA.
1-0 vs top 10 Notre Dame.
16 years under Tressel & Meyer.
On defensive staffs that shut down 2002 Miami & 2014 Alabama.
Not to mention he is as squeaky clean as it gets.
Schools overthink this stuff, It's not that complicated.

99% agree on this per the upvotes. Why?
He took over Penn St coaching gig after a scandal. Sandusky/Paterno? He left NE as OC and QB coach to take the PSU gig. We have our own stuff. Perhaps talking to Bill Belicheck and Saban’s go to guys, tell me again why we shouldn’t even entertain talking to him? That didn’t work out with handling GM duties on top of being a HC. Deshaun Watson still a pro bowler. Tom Herman was the top pick last time..
