I was told BESE quietly voted to give the school boards the power to make mask decisions.

Friend told me that our local school boards don’t have to follow the mask mandate If they choose not to now that BESE voted to give them the power decide on such issues.

I thought they were subject to the governor’s mandate during an emergency declaration???

Anyone else know about this?

I sure need to find out. I’m about to become a domestic terrorist about masks on my kids. It needs to end NOW.

They took the most mealy-mouthed approach to doing this possible IMHO.

They wanted to punt on this a while back so they put it at the end of the agenda for a meeting then, when they chose to break for lunch, people got pissed enough that they just ended the meeting completely.

Thus, they didn’t have to immediately step into the pile of shite in front of them and they blamed the public for the whole matter.

We are still in the middle of the longest 2 weeks in recent memory. Something like 18 months and counting.

Not sure that this is necessarily a good thing. At the end of last school year, JBE's "mandate" for masks ended the final week of school...and yet, Lafayette Parish decided to just keep the kids in masks for the last few days for no fricking reason.

In fact, my son needed to go back in the day after the last day to pick up some award, and when we got there the faculty who was taking the photo asked that he take one IN A MASK, to which I told her, "Yeah...absolutely not. That's asinine." My 14 year old held back his chuckling, and she just looked sad and took the one WHERE YOU COULD ACTUALLY SEE HIS FACE.

If BESE did this, it may be to allow JBE to say, "Look...I let the mandate go, but it's your school board that's doing it." It get the impression they don't want to give this up.

I guess it could go both ways...
Jeff Davis Parish told the parents their hands were tied because of the governor's mandate.

I suspect our governor isn't committed to masking kids.
