Lets be honest here. The same pieces would have likely been in place if Herman was coach and not O. All except maybe Joe Brady. Burrow likely still comes to LSU because he had a strong relationship with Herman. The rest of the talent would mostly had still been there. LSU maybe still goes on that historic run in 2019 with Herman.
People that downvote you are lying to themselves. Herman would have gotten us there with Aranda as DC. Herman had a HUGE hurdle to deal with when he got to Texas. They didn't have the talent to compete. He had a mediocre previous starter QB and a gifted true freshman QB. He had RBs that never amounted to anything in their career also. In just his 2nd year he turned it around. They had a top 25 QB, a decent run game, and had just made it to their conference championship and beat UGA in the Sugar Bowl. In case yall were wondering, it was the first conference championship appearance for Texas since 2009, the first double digit win season since 2009, and was their first big bowl game since, you guessed it 2009. Yes he failed to improve on top of it, but I don't see that same problem with a LSU roster.

What I liked is that you knew he would have one side of the ball down right, you knew he could recruit (all over Texas, Ohio, and with Louisiana, would have a big recruiting base to pick from), and all he needed was a decent defensive coordinator. Look at the skill players Texas has sent to the NFL over the past 10+ years, who are the standouts? With LSU, even when we suck we have studs all over the field. I still think Herman would dominate here, but I feel like we wouldn't take that risk (although I'd love to see how crazy good he would have Walker Howard looking as a redshirt freshman).

Herman was rumored to want to replace Aranda with his own DC. And with Herman running the offense, 2019 doesn't happen.

But the falloff after 2019 might not have been as great as we still would have been a middling 8-5 team with no championship under Herman.

QUICK, name 10 NFL stars from the past 10 years at Texas, then name 10 NFL stars from LSU.

LSU is not Texas. Herman was the best thing that happened to Texas since Mack Brown when he actually cared. Herman ruined himself by not going with LSU, but it's understandable with Texas being his roots.

Then why didn't he go to Texas?

Because LSU looked light years ahead of Texas. 8-5 was the best year Texas had in the previous 5. That was the worst year LSU had with a horrible QB and improved with Ettling at QB. Plus O is a great recruiter.

Texas wasn't looking though. And it came down to us and, who was it, Cinncy? Not to take away from O bringing him here, but it wasn't some extraordinary coup of recruiting.

Meh. Either one of them could have won a championship at LSU.

And you know this how? Based on what they've accomplished so far?

Not really I think it was the safety coach who told O about burrow and rest is history.

Very good chance he comes to LSU with Herman. Texas wasn’t looking for a QB. Herman recruited Burrow to Ohio St.

I don't know it. It's speculation of course, just as it's speculation that they would not have done well here. Would you ever have thought that O had 2019 in him?

Coach O is like that girl you meet on spring break. You have an absolute blast and think, “maybe this could last”, but it doesn’t last because she’s the type of girl you hook up with on spring break.

It was fun, filled with amazing memories, but it’s time to find the marrying type.

This is such a stupid analogy, but it's also incredibly apt. I will forever think back about the amazing time in 2019, but to commit to this girl long term could mean winding up strung out on meth in a trailer park.

I agree with all that. I think if O is at Texas and Herman at LSU it still comes down to LSU and Cincy. And it is still LSU that gets him.

If anything, it shows that Lady Luck can smile on anyone on any given day. Unfortunately, when his career actions are viewed in the aggregate, it shows that the results were likely in spite of, and not because of, his actions.

Compete?
His predecessor was 5-7 vs Bama and Ed is looking at 1-5 if he isn't fired before Nov 6.
He owns the worst LSU loss to them ever, 38pts and backs it up with 29pts.
Zero has put up zero pts twice vs Bama in his hopefully short stay.
