The Perfect Storm

what's everyone's thoughts on this movie. I thought it was really good, with a very solid cast. Special effects were pretty damned good too. I read the book before seeing the movie and thought they did a good job in keeping close to the same story. I could have lived without the scenes on the sailboat with the nagging ladies, though.

Excellent movie. And may be the most tolerable Wahlberg movie for me (I generally think he's a terrible actor).
Agree that it runs a little long, mainly due to the useless sailboat rescue scenes, but it's still a good ride. I don't think I could ever do that job.

I don't go out of my way to watch it, but I get excited if its on a streaming platform or on TV.

I like him a lot, but he generally does just play himself in every movie that he's in.

Not a huge Clooney fan, but this was a solid movie. Isn't it a true story?

His range is limited for sure. I like about half his movies.

Watched it with my dad. Enjoyed it, and a couple of the scenes really hit.

John C Reilly when they realize they are doomed and just waiting on the water to fill all the way up and drown them..."This is going to be hard on my boy"

Yes. No one knows exactly how they went out at the end so that is just an educated guess as to how it went down.

Yeah, that one hit me hard last time I watched it now that I have a little boy.
It's weird how shite like that gets at me now. I hate it.

It is based on true story, some of it embellished for Hollywood, probably not much different than those people on the barge that got caught in that storm off LA
I'm sure they had some serious money tied up in that catch and decided to risk it instead of playing it safe
We ate at this place in Gloucester and they had pictures of the cast all over the restaurant, The Crow's Nest plus that statue of the sailor is by the harbor

embellished for Hollywood,
yeah, i'd imagine the captain in real life having the "every man for himself" approach.

I've never been as mad at the end of a movie as this one. When everyone fricking dies, you realize that none of that shite probably happened at all. Probably the worst ending of any movie I have ever seen with the exception of maybe Titanic which is another boat disaster movie.

They did all die
The names are on the memorial
A rescue attempt by Coast Guard was made but they couldn't do anything

I'm with you here. Excellent movie til the end. I'm thinking to myself the only time I watched it..how the frick you can claim true story, when you have no fricking clue the real story? They may have all moved to Iceland and changed their names to Whoeversson. No one knows.

Such an impressively stupid take

Not to be that guy, but the book is worth a read. It elaborates more on the coast guard (?) rescue efforts and has the most horrifying, detailed description of drowning I’ve ever read.
Fwiw I like the movie. Saw it with my dad in theaters, it was a somber father/son moment for us.
