Would have to be a big panel. And assuming you are using due to a storm, what happens when said storm damages the panel?

You can build one for $650 that performs better

2400 watts, is that a home generator FOR ANTS?!
Posted on 9/18/21 at 11:12 am to SlowFlowPro
Isn’t this basically just like any other solar system?

Lol at the wireless charging ports.
Because in an emergency situation, I’m gonna want to use a highly inefficient mode of energy transfer.
If I would be going this road, I’m going for the Tesla Power Wall

What happens when the power’s out a week and your generator crapped out 3 days ago. Solar panels in NOLA held up very well with the storm.

If a storm is severe enough to damage the modern panels, odds are having electricity to your house is the least of your worries.

It’s ungodly expensive at this point, but the ultimate no evac hurricane set up is a tesla solar roof, 1 or 2 powerwalls, an EV and starlink.
No waiting on entergy, cox, att or gas stations.

Nah. But solar collectors that I can use off the grid during outages? Hell yes.
Posted on 9/18/21 at 11:34 am to JohnnyKilroy
I guess the solar roof ain’t quite ready for full prime time just yet, but if Elon was smart he would be down on the gulf coast after every major storm trying to get people to replace their roofs with a solar roof.

That's just a 5kw battery pack driving a 2-3kw inverter. Not going to last very long... bet the price is stupid as well.

My power wall failed the first days after storm I have 8kw of useless panels in storm.. Lost contents of freeze. Should have bought new outboard.

I once used a shoe box sized solar panel to charge my phone and it took 6 hours. No thanks.

Is it more dependable than gas? If so then yes.

quote:Typically we use a multi-million dollar power plant, miles of copper, distribution components, etc to charge a phone in an hour, and you're not impressed that a shoe box can do it in 6 when all that other stuff fails?
