Chip Shortage - What You Haven’t Heard

Yes, the automotive industry is taking a huge hit right now but here is the other side of the story.
I work for the U.S. side of an Italian robotics company that builds production equipment for the biggest hitters in the US. P&G, Clorox, SC Johnson, J&J, Nestle and the list goes on and on.
The electrical equipment required to build and run this equipment right now is few and far between. If this keeps up, no new plants will be built and existing plants are going to have a hard time keeping up with demand. I think China knows this is the way to take this country down without ever firing a single shot. It’s really strange to me the media is completely ignoring this huge warning sign. Just imagine if all US production comes to a hault. It will be the TP crisis times a million.

They are ignoring it because they are owned by China and/or hate America and want to see it fail.

I assume you are talking about servo motors and the like?
Electrical equipment covers a lot.

Depending on a foreign country for necessary items was as dumb as it gets. Politicians sold us out to China a long time ago.

If we have the ability to manufacture the requisite components here, which we should, but outsource for cost efficiencies, how could this be any more than a short term disruption or market correction event. Prices will increase, for certain, but US would make chips and life goes on it seems.

That’s not a big it’s a feature.

Thinking the same thing. We talking circuit boards, conduit…?

Any AB or Siemens parts are virtually impossible to get a hold of right now.

Truth.
Looking back, I know all the hate for FDR, and rightfully so, but AT LEAST he was smart enough to ramp up production and manufacturing at home for the storm that he knew was coming soon.
Don't understand how stupid and blind and corrupt we have become......

Guys, think least common denominator….that’s the point. I’ve been waiting for an electrical component for kitchen oven/ microwave for 1 year.

Industrial microcontrollers, PLCs and the like, supplies are starting to dry up quickly.
Even the "hobby type" boards for things like the Arduino, STM32, ESP32/8266 etc...all prices are starting to rise.
The entire automation industry is in for a rough ride.

The largest chip manufacturer is in Taiwan. Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea all make as many or more chips than China.

Just curious. What brand?

Kinda like having a 57 Chevy in Cuba . They seem to keep them going somehow . When American cars from Detroit had endurance

I don't know if China wants to incentivize America into finding other ways to get their shite manufactured.
I think this is all a blunder for China, as well.

Not sure if they are intentionally fricking with us or if they are having their own issues.
Based off the discussions about the real estate corporation that is having major problems over there, their issues may be that they were heavily involved with building China’s ghost cities and got stiffed by China for it.
That may be one of the first shoes to drop in the Chinese economy, which has been referred to as a house of cards for a while now.

“The other side of the chip shortage” you dipshit.
I believe you’ll keep blowing China Joe to his grave.

ICs are like petro feedstocks--they are in everything. A chip embargo would be far worse than the oil embargo of the 70s.
