McSharry’s Pub is fun. The food is good.

Damn. Just read up on that place and how it burned down.
Sounded like a great time.

there was a goat that ran around the place and drank beer if that helps set the scene for you. It was an epic hangout

Im pretty pretty close to this location and have been wondering who is going to move in. You live in Fairhope?
I’ve been wondering the same. It’s a great location.
I live on the other side of the bay but make day trips over with the family. Will definitely eat here when it opens.

I was thinking the same thing. That BBQ Drum…..

I saw a dumpster in the parking lot today today, which is the first sign of life ive noticed there.
I also heard that an oyster bar is opening in downtown Fairhope, featuring more local oysters. It'll be great to be able to get them in Fairhope.

It will be the best LA food in the area, no doubt.
I think Chimes is decent. Nothing great.

Good to hear… I had heard it was a Louisiana restaurant, but was wondering which one. Every time someone around here opens a “Louisiana” restaurant, it’s horrible

Solid southern food with a great bar
This.
But what makes "The Chimes" is, well, the fact that it is on Chimes St. right next to the North Gates of LSU. The location was EVERYTHING to gain the reputation. It became a college tradition first before spreading to the other end of BR and the Northshore. The food is fine, but without that original location and already built in goodwill like it had in BR/south Louisiana when they opened other locations outside of LSU is it really anything all that special? Or at least special enough to replicate that success in an entirely different state?
Probably not that much different when Dreamland BBQ (Tuscaloosa) or Mama Goldberg's (Auburn) tried to make it work in BR. They were beloved college town traditions in Alabama but really had no name recognition outside of those states to find success in BR

I'm in Alabama and would much rather have a Chimes here than the Walk On's we got. But I've only been to Chimes twice, and both times were way back in the 90's.

The Parrain's BBQ Drum is one of the best fish entrees around and at a decent price.
It will be on the menu at the Fairhope location, which will not be named Chimes or Parrain's BTW. The menu will be a combo of the most popular items from the Chimes/Parrain's menus.

I actually really liked Mama Goldberg’s

We usually stop at Boudreaux’s if we’re searching for southern LA style food.

Sorry I gotta downvote Boudreaux’s. Been there 3 times and 3 times I left disappointed. All three times food was bland and orders were not correct. Ordered the crawfish pistolettes and got a roll filled with sauce and corn with a single crawfish in it.

Yeah, it’ll be an oyster snd seafood spot where the old R Bistro was on the main drag. It’s someone affiliated with Fisher’s upstairs in Orange Beach Marina which is a nice spot.
Some of the locals are irked that R Bistro is gone but I think this new place will be welcomed just fine

Chimes will be a good place to go watch a game in an area that surprisingly has few offerings along those lines

What happened to the Lafayette chimes? Assuming Covid but will it still happen?
Pretty sure the land that they were building it on still has a for sale sign on it so I don’t think it’s happening.

It is still happening. They bought way more land than needed, so they are selling "outparcels".
