NM was one of my favorites, the way he stared at the crowd after every joke still cracks me up every time. He made even "failed" jokes funny.

Letterman did too and was clearly training him to be his successor, but Norm despised authority and every executive in Hollywood hated him. The only reason Norm continued to get gigs is his fellow comedians not allowing him to be cancelled.
