Attention Phillips CPAP, etc users: Recall notice

Link to Philips recall and find your model listed here
Essentially the above states if you're using life saving products keep using, otherwise discontinue use.
A good many of the Phillips CPAP and similar devices has some potential detrimental foam that can lead up to cancer causing elements.
Seems like if you use one if the ozone cleaners it makes it even worse.
If you follow directions, you'll register your device and await further information. I just registered mine this evening, even though the recall has been out nearly 3 months.
Just offering this PSA, hopefully yours isn't affected as is mine.

On June 14, 2021, Philips issued a recall notification for the United States for specific affected ventilation and sleep apnea devices. The notification informs patients, users and customers of potential impacts on patient health and clinical use related to this issue. Read below to learn more about the recall, determine if your device is impacted, and next steps to register your device.
If you use one of the affected devices, the recall notification advises patients and customers to take the following actions:
1. Continue life-sustaining ventilation prescribed therapy
Consult with your physician as soon as possible to determine appropriate next steps.
OR
2. Stop use of BiLevel PAP & CPAP sleep apnea devices
Consult with your physician to determine the benefits of continuing therapy and potential risks.

I need to check which brand mine is. I got it like ten years ago and used it for 30 minutes. No idea how people sleep with a fighter pilot mask on their face.

Nb4 someone calls you a fatty.

They issued the recall for these back in June. Still scrambling to manufacture replacements. Dreamstation 2 is out and not affected by the recall... but good luck getting one.
Huge shortage of PAPs on the market now, but I guess this will work to ResMed's advantage. ResMed and Philips basically have a monopoly on the PAP market.

Took me a loooong time to get used to it, and it still feels awkward on some nights. But Goddamn do I feel so much better after a good nights sleep on it.

I take an anti-anxiety med called Mirtazipine at bedtime and it knocks me the frick out, so sleeping with the mask is no issue. Without the pill--not sure how I'd handle the mask.
I've used CPAP for 5 years. Best thing I've ever done for myself. Sleep is so much better and it's nice not to be tired at 10am after a night's sleep.
And I'm not a fatty...

Same. I'm a normal weight for my height and age, but the catch is I'm an old frickin' man and I started snoring like a beast in my fifties. I needed it.

Just got up after first night sleeping without it.
Feel like garbage. Gonna be a long day.
I'm not fat, either. Technically, I'm in the "OK" range for weight for height. It's the issue that I will stop breathing.
The sleep study test I did, it was determined that I stopped breathing up to 25 times an hour. Which was considered a "moderate" condition

My Philips Dreamstation is on the recall list. I saw my pulmonologist last week to discuss the recall and if I needed a new machine. He said the recall is about internal noise reduction foam in the Apap and my unit is okay after inspection. The unit is five years old.
He also said the SoClean sanitizer causes the foam to deteriorate. I've never used a SoClean, so I am okay.

This is a massive screwup. Lawyers are lining up, both for the end-consumer and the retail establishments that sold that product. It's to the point where a CPAP just cannot be obtained.

Here's a little known fact.
It's not the sound insulation foam that is defective. It's when people use ozone-generators to sanitize their machines. Ozone gas interacts with the foam and causes it to deteriorate. Resmed identified this a couple of years ago and sent out a letter stating that using a "So Clean" type device will void the warranty on their machines.
This is akin to putting diesel in your gas-powered car, and then blaming the car company when your car breaks down. Thing is, personal injury lawyers are jumping all over this. Anyone who used a Philips machine and got a sore throat, is now signing up for class-action lawsuits.

Mine is one of the affected models. I registered it online so they will keep me posted about when they'll send me a replacement. They sent me an email 2-3 weeks ago saying they've just gotten FDA approval and will begin the recall process "soon".
I talked to my medical goods person and he said this is the biggest shitshow. They're not getting any help or info, the sleep docs aren't getting any info, and us poor consumers sure aren't getting any info.

This is me. It still weirds me out every now and then, but for the most part I am used to it. But the sleep I get is a hundred times better than what I used to get. And I don't keep everyone in my house awake anymore either, which is nice.
I'll have to check what machine I have this afternoon when I get home. Not sure what brand/model it is. Hopefully it's not affected by this recall though.

What kind of inspection? My unit is 2 years old. Never used ozone cleaners.
I slept like shite last night without it.

I have been using Cpap for about 13 years. Cardiologist was the motivator in getting the sleep test, and it worked verified by ekg. I am on my third machine, and I keep a working spare.
My reading of the machine cleaners was they were not much use. Flushing weekly with spray chlorox and use of distilled water supports a long life.
Cpap.com is my supplier of least hassle and cost
