I remember Press Maravich and I hate the idea that the court is named after that old narcissistic fricker doing everything he can to sabotage the current coach.

So yeah, now maybe he’ll shut the frick up and quit being a pipeline to Vitale and others.

Regardless of Brown and how anyone feels about him court naming is tacky. You wanna name an arena, that’s pretty cool but the court is already in a named arena, naming the court comes off as desperate

Maybe its time some of you stop this ridiculous shite that you spew every time Dale Brown is mentioned.

You are probably in your twenties and you have no idea what this man accomplished and the odds he overcame to get the program into the national spotlight. Dale took a moribund program and built it into a national power which went head to head with the elites of college basketball for 15 years with two trips to the Final Four, 4 SEC titles and a tournament title, two elite eight trips and All Americans including Macklin, Shaq, and Chris Jackson with multiple All SEC players. He is very deserving ofthis honor.

Well said. Dale Brown is an amazing person who has made a difference in the lives of many people. Because a few rantards get their nose out of joint doesn't change that.

SU has named the basketball court for Dale Brown after a lengthy and sometimes heated meeting today. Story to come.

Tells us all we need to know about this decision, lengthy and heated shows it was the wrong choice......these type honors should follow a discussion that is short and "no-brainer" consensus.

Because it has been so long ago now I think many have forgotten just how big of a deal LSU basketball was in the 1980's and early 90's. Students used to wait for hours to get into the PMAC. Sometimes camping out the night before. It was a big deal to get into one of the big games on campus. And there were several. He made LSU basketball a national brand. A program that once drew 66,000 people to a game in the Superdome. Unthinkable for a program that routinely struggles to draw 10,000 to a big game today...even though the program has been GOOD the last 3 years.

Was Dale flawed as a coach? Sure. Did he underachieve some years? Absolutely. Did he become vindictive following his (forced) retirement and burn some bridges? Yep. But he is still, far and away, the best HC the program has ever had. And I say that as a big fan of Will Wade.

While it would not be a travesty if they didn't honor him in such a manner, there IS justification to do so. No different than Oklahoma St. naming the court after Eddie Sutton despite some of his issues. I can recognize that post-retirement Brown had is issues with continuing to trying to meddle in the program as if he was the founder of LSU basketball, but also recognize he had a LOT of success during his time at LSU that hasn't really been matched before or since.

They should name it Dale Brown until his unoffical retirement in 1993 Court.

Who was pushing for this?

Just take a look at the list of LSU board members and it won’t take you long to find the answer to this question.

It was Collis Temple. Then he rallied the support of others to push the narrative.

Wade really hasn't done anything here yet, except put us in a position to be potentially hammered by the NCAA, yet you guys are jerking him off like he's had John Wooden like success

Well deserved….
the minimum standard for having something like this (if based on job performance at a school like LSU) should be winning a natty.

That's a lie. He started better than the guy the court is named after, has the winningest SEC program since he started, and has the second longest post season streak in school history.

Because the program boasts a bunch of NBA legends, casual fans have an outsized view of the actual accomplishments of the program. There aren't a ton of them. Will Wade is the second best coach in school history already. That's both incredible for him and sad for LSU bball.

No one is saying the court needs to be named after Wade.

Brown was the most successful men's basketball coach that LSU has had.

But, he has been a net negative for the program since he put it on probation in the late 90's. That is a long f@#$ing time. Negatives including probation, thorn in the side to a couple of the coaches since then per reports, and pushing to get an unqualified Jones to the position.

Put a statue somewhere near the PMAC, but don't name the court after him.

As opposed to Brown, who actually got LSU hammered by the NCAA.

What does any of this have to do with him trying to sabotage Wade?

From reading the article, it sounds like a few people just wanted to add Sue Gunter's name in addition to Brown's. But if we're being honest, nobody usually refers to the name of the court in basketball, so this isn't that big of a deal either way. The arena name is what people generally refer to.
