Why was O allowed to pick two coordinators that had never called plays before?

I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that we replaced coordinators with guys that had never called a single game and fired the Oline coach all in the offseason. In what world did the LSU brass think this was a good idea? We’re talking about a 100 million dollar program here. These guys have never made adjustments in their life.

Why did he hire a DC last season without even interviewing him?

They couldn't find anyone reputable willing to commit career suicide working for Orgeron

It makes zero sense. The fact that coach O and the AD couldn’t see this is mind boggling. These guys don’t know how to make adjustments or run staff meets because they have never done so before. LSU isn’t ULM this is a top ten program and we hire rookies to pair with a sophomore QB. And on top of that we fire the OL coach and we have leaks everywhere and lineman stating they don’t know the plays.

An AD would have to have a death wish to start picking coordinators for his head coach (even more so for a head coach he did not hire).

The AD doesn’t look much better. How many contracts has LSU had to eat because of bad decisions by coach O? LSU is like a leaky faucet right now. The AD needs to get control of this crap. Heck our own compliance department is sitting some of our best players. This would never happen at Bama,Georgia,Fla etc.

People were praising Peetz like crazy in the offseason. And while he said all the right things, you had to at least have hesitation with these guys before crowning them. I know I was hopeful, but truly had no idea what to expect. I feel like the issues go deeper than plays though. The core of the program is in shambles.

It is remarkable....JP because JB recommended him...ok Daronte because nobody else would coach with a shrimp boat captain....not good good for a "CEO" HC

Absolutely makes no sense for LSU to have 1st time coordinators learning on the job. And the 1st year OC was hired to run someone else’s offense after working with that guy for 1 year. O is turning this into a shite show and it will only get worse the longer he is here. He’s a career position coach and is proving he’s in over his head.

Crazy times we live in… All traditional common sense is turned upside-down. Right is left. Bad is good. Experience and paying your dues means nothing.

Easy to see why things are imploding.

Okay, I think people forget about how badly Coach O flamed out on the defensive coordinator search last year. Marcus Freeman went to Notre Dame and Ryan Nielsen was just a complete flameout by Coach O not asking Sean Payton for permission to speak with Nielsen about the position.

He did not have many options left when Daronte Jones was offered the job, and I still believe that it is too early to judge Jones as we have only seen him for one game. And what we do know is that Coach O has been a lot more involved in the scheme than he should be, so a lot of the problems can be associated to him.

True. Pelini didn’t suddenly forget how to coach defense. He said we didn’t have the personnel for a 4-3 but that’s what Orgeron wants so that’s what run and here we are. Orgeron has been given the autonomy any coach should be granted. He’s just failed miserably.

I don't think he was an OC prior...

Brady likes Peetz....

Thats how it went down

Best guess? Woody realized the model was unsustainable when high profile coordinator after coordinator turned O down last year. Basically SW is letting O dig his own grave.

SW is giving him all the autonomy that a head coach should have. Sadly, Orgeron is just doing exactly what you said

Because O is lazy and incompetent.

He hired Canada without ever meeting the guy because, according to him, he told Derek Ponamsky to go get the best offensive Coordinator. Ponamsky got in touch with Canada’s people and an offer was extended.

O hired Pelini and Linehan because, according to him, he called Pete Carol, asked for recommendations, and then immediately called two over-the-hill coaches who weren’t in demand and who hadn’t coached at the FBS level in years, and gave them hilarious contracts.

This year, O hired two coordinators who had never called plays at the FBS level (one who had never called plays period) because, according to him, he called Joe Brady and Dave Aranda and asked for recommendations.

He’s a buffoon. He’s lazy. He doesn’t trust himself to make the right hire so he goes solely on the recommendations of others.

It’s embarrassing and a shame that such an incompetent person fell arse backwards into this job. It’s even more of a disappointment that, after winning a title, O has done almost nothing to keep the program moving forward, learn from his mistakes, or show any competency.
