Getting to LA...

My flight is booked out of NOLA at 6:30AM Wednesday, and as of right now is still "on time." Storm should be past, but worried about possible damage.
My son is playing a big concert for his birthday in LA Thurs. night...have to be there! If flight is cancelled, and can't get another out of Texas or wherever, I'm driving, lol. Anybody else in a similar situation and wanna carpool? Just planning ahead

Fly out of Houston as a backup. With Hobby and Intercontinental, you have ton of options.

We fly out of Nola at 11:50 on Wednesday. Praying roads are passable and airport is open. Possible back-up plans is to fly out of Houston or Dallas. Big concern is losing communication and not being able to cancel about seven hotel rooms if trip gets canned.

You should be able to find a flight out of Houston to LA, if you can't out of NO

We going to drive to Houston or Atlanta to fly if MSY is closed. My concern is damage to the house forcing me to stay back.

First and foremost, I hope you avoid any damage and are safe. We are thinking about ya’ll.
My parents in Lake Charles went through this with their house last year. The house has some fixable roof damage and siding which I tarped and patched. Power was out for 5 weeks so staying there past a few days wasn’t realistic. Basically after a few days of fixing and prep, it was time for them to relocate.
The issue was getting an insurance adjuster out there. Their insurance company took 3 weeks to send an adjuster. Depending on your insurance company, you may get an adjuster soon (few days after) or it may take a while. We also had some looters/scammers come by pretending to know my dad and saying my dad asked him to “relocate” his boat. Asking him a few confirmation questions while carrying a shotgun remedied that situation.
I only bring this up because it was something I wasn’t prepared for. In retrospect, I should have been. If your house does have damage, once you know when the adjuster is coming, you’ll know about the game. Having some good neighbors to keep an eye on things helps too.

We're in a similar situation. My son and I are flying out of MSY on Wednesday evening and meeting my wife and daughter who are flying out of Jackson, MS in LA. Daughter goes to Ole Miss. If MSY has issues, my first option is also flying out of Jackson on Southwest.

Mine is Wed at 6:30am and says on-time. Problem is getting to NOLA from Natchez. I know LaPlace is at least partially flooded at I-10...does anyone know if 61South is open to airport?
Other option is to come down 55, but is it open where it hits I-10?
Have tried to call airport, state police, etc...sure they have more important things to do. So, turning to my Tiger brothers. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Please let us know if you're able to get any info between now and then. Have family supposed to fly out of MSY to Nashville around noon on Wednesday. At this point I have serious doubts that'll happen.
MSY cancelled all flights today and at least 140 so far tomorrow. All the people who evacuated via plane still have to get back as well.

I would assume that airport was built to withstand hurricanes and have backup power, so it should be open. Getting to it may be an issue. You can fly out of Mobile or Pensacola on Delta to Atlanta. Then direct flight to L.A.

Got notification today from SWA that noon Wednesday flight was cancelled. Was going to drive to Houston. Had to call to change flight. SWA agent told me flights will resume early afternoon at MSY. So we're booked for 6:25 PM on Wednesday. She was confident airport would be up and running.

I did not want to risk it. I changed my flights to houston and I am sitting at the gate right now about to board and head to vegas. New York New York comped me 4 nights and is only charging me $50 for Friday night. Heading to Pasadena at 6am Saturday morning.

My SWA flight out of MSY on Wednesday morning was cancelled. I'm on the line waiting to speak with an agent to reschedule. All listed flights out of MSY on the SWA website are unavailable.
