Let's talk fall vegetables. What are your go-to vegitable varieties for the fall? This will be my first try at it and from what I'm reading, now is the time to start the seeds.

My pumpkins are rolling now.
I usually plant broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, turnips, carrots, and Brussels sprouts

Lots of turnips, radishes, cabbage and broccoli. Cauliflower isn't worth it IMO.

Varieties I like:
Cauliflower: Snowcrown
Broccoli: Destiny and Gypsy
Carrots: Napoli
Lettuce: Saladbowl
My kids really liked the saladbowl variety of lettuce- it’s really mild tasting and we eat a salad with supper just about every night of the season

Every fall I have onions, garlic, several varieties of leaf lettuces, Swiss Chard, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, collard greens to overwinter.
I try my best to have some type beans, some cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. that will fade badly if a frost hits, so get them in the ground fairly early but not too early to have to take the heat that is S.E. La. until September if the heat doesn't beat them down even then.

I am only going to mess with pole beans, tomatoes and peppers. I did plant a couple of pumpkin seeds.
But I don't care if any of it does anything. After this hot arse summer, I am over the whole gardening thing.

Mustard greens, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, cabbage, carrots and red potatoes. A year round garden is so satisfying.

Preface this with the fact that I tried a small garden in the spring, but know nothing about what I'm doing.
Planting tomatoes, cucumbers, bush beans, pole beans, corn, spinach, broccoli, lettuce, carrots, and celery.
Biting off a little more than I can chew. Don't expect everything to do well, but hope to learn what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong.

Any stores in South LA selling fall veggies yet? I may start some turnip seeds today. I think I'll plant a few every 2-3 weeks until November.

Sun master tomatoes and dasher2 cucumbers. Ain’t nothing like a mater and cucumber salad in November.

Lastrapes Garden Center in Opelousas had plenty of seeds and plants when I went Friday.

Just came across this 42 page Mississippi vegetable gardener’s’ guide, published last month August 2021, by the Mississippi State University Cooperative Extension Service. Good reference guide for new and older vegetable gardeners alike.

I ordered some Daikon seeds off of eBay. They're listed as a Turnip/Radish. Do you cook them or eat them raw?

Don't be so quick to give up. Fall/Winter/Spring gardening is my favorite of the year. I plant lots of stuff in late Sept./early Oct. and most of it will over-winter and produce well into the early spring before I pull it for my spring/summer garden.
No heat, less weeds and pests, less watering all make fall/winter gardening some of my favorite times of the year.

Did everyone get the garden in ? With all this rain, I hope so.

Only 1/3 of my turnips and radishes. Still need to plant cabbage and broccoli. Good thing is my eggplant is coming back and I have some cucumber coming back from falling seeds.
