U trippin dude... If Pels could swipe 2 players off just the Atlanta bench, say Cam Reddish or Bogdanovich and a Jalen Johnson, we would be saying this team is Top 3 in the West and legit title contenders if everyone played to their basic potential.
Outside of Zion having a friend on the team, there is zero reason I would be excited about getting Cam Reddish. Dude has not shown that he is going to be a good NBA player, mucg less a guy that elevates you. Im trying to figure out how you could even remotely think that by adding him makes you a legit title contender. He would be our 10th man.

looks like you are right about memphis.
jv>>adams
andersen likely traded
jaren looked physically and functionally awful in his cameo playoff run. maybe he's back.
they passed on murphy3 who is looking ready now to take an athletic not ready z Williams. and got Culver. also not ready.
Brooks good
tyus mkeh but likely traded
morant. can he learn jumper
bane turnovers = assists.
clarke thigh injury looking chronic.
got that top 10 protected laker pick coming. and a Portland first 2022.
wait til 2024+
if they make playoffs it is because other teams injured or sitting star on the days memphis plays them.
contract management cost them jv.
probably anderson and tyus asap too.

He's not a hell of a player. JJJ has shown flashes of greatness, but he hasn't proven anything yet. Depending on him is foolish.
I also think that Adams is in the middle of a steep decline. He was legitimately a good player at OKC two years ago. This past season, he was a below-average starter. The aging and/or nagging injuries that plagued him this past season are going to leave him alone in the future? That seems a bad bet. I bet he declines further and is a poor starter for them.
I don't hate the Grizzlies at all. Ja seems like a good kid, and I love Anderson and Brooks and the way they play. And I'm fond of Steven and his worm farm! I just don't think that they make even the play-in next season:

Yeah, this is called motivated reasoning in action.
You are assuming best scenarios for us, worst case for everyone else.
Doesn't work like that.

No. First of all, you do not know my thoughts or motivations. Pretending that you do is called several things that I am not going to name, because I am busy today and don't have time for 20 pages of back-and-forth name-calling.
Secondly, how could I possibly be assuming worst-case scenarios for everyone else if I have nine other teams making the postseason?
What you said doesn't even make sense. And the crazy part is that I probably like the Grizzlies more than any Western Conference team besides us. I just don't think that they will be any good, regardless of your psychoanalysis.

Gonna take a few trips to the playoffs to learn how to play playoff basketball.
maybe.
maybe they get a home series and an inferior but experienced opponent.
in that scenario they learn without losing the series.
every guy is different.
some never learn.
mitch Richmond an Olympian kept stepping back out of bounds with the game on the line. gsw dealt him.

Question, are you insinuating you think the Pels will finish in front of the Mavs and the Clippers?
If so, just interested in your reasoning there.

Yeah, the Clippers are going to be without Kawhi for a huge chunk of the season. When he does come back, his minutes will be limited, and he will rest a lot of games. PG13 isn't good enough to carry them. When you're trading for Eric Bledsoe so you can dump salary, that's not a good omen for the coming season, but they'll be dangerous in the playoffs.
Did Dallas get better this offseason? I don't know that they did. They really needed to win the Lowry sweepstakes. I also think that the Luka/Porzingis relationship is badly messed up.
I wouldn't necessarily put the Pelicans above those teams with our current roster (but maybe!), but with the cap room and the trade exception, I expect us to significantly improve the team at the deadline.
I think that there is a top tier of Suns, Jazz, Nuggets, Lakers, and Warriors, and that any of those teams could reasonably win the West.

The Clippers minus Kawhi aren’t a very good team. They may still be a playoff team, but they are a bottom tier playoff team.

Fair enough.
Mavs: Personally, I’m a big Luka believer. There are players that claim to care about winning. Luka actually exudes that aura out on the court. I get actual MJ and Kobe vibes from Luka regarding his competitive spirit and he’s a top 5 player in the league to boot. Luka was on pace to drag Slovenia to a silver or gold medal before getting injured late in the Olympic semis. I think Luka will carry Dallas to 50 ish wins. They got a lot of nothing from Porz last year and still had a really good season. I think the biggest threat to them is losing Carlisle. That potentially hurts them.
Clippers: I know they are missing kawhi, but Playoff P knows how to lead and carry in the regular season. He’s really good. Also, they were winning big games without Kawhi and Ibaka in the playoffs. I think it’s possible they are better than people expect. I don’t know how much if any Bled will play unless there are injuries. I can see the Clippers flopping more than the Mavs though. I believe in Luka more than Playoff P even though 1 could argue the Clips have a better supporting cast and a better coach than the Mavs.
At the end of the day, I still think we can potentially leap some of these teams just with simple internal improvement. Make freaking free throws, better clock and game mgmt in the 4th Q, emphasizing defending the corner 3, etc.
That’s before taking into account replacing LONZO with NAW, Bled with Graham, Adams with Jonas, adding Trey Murphy and Sato, and replacing SVG with a guy that actually both gives a shite about basketball and cultivating healthy relationships with his players.

jv > adams ft
Graham > lonzo ft. Graham will look to get fouled on drives. satoransky will too. the guard play in halfcourt will be so much better than bledsoe and ball.
that should do it.

Honestly, if we had gone out and signed Satornosky to a 1 year/10M to be the 4th/5th guard on this team, would anyone think that is a good deal? Is he considered a "good" back-up PG?
Posted on 8/27/21 at 4:04 pm to brmark70816
Yes. That's why I posted the RAPTOR ratings. Sato produces above average play -- not by a lot, but most backups are below average, which is why they are backups and not starters.

He's started about 50% of the games he's played. Fringe starter = Good backup for sure. And that's exactly the caliber of player you typically sign with the MLE, which is around $10 million currently.
