did I ever tell you about this girl in college that was completely in love with me? She was cute enough, but a little nerdy. I blew her off time and time again. She would have married me in a New York second if I was interested, but IDGAF.

That girl is Elon Musk

Why would be pressured to overpay him?

Because the reason people are upset about the Lonzo trade is they think the Pels should have gotten a 1st for him. So trading Lonzo for Lauri would be like trading a 1st for him. That sunk cost makes the team feel it needs to keep him and gives the player leverage. We see it all the time in the NBA.

I’m hearing alot of excuses, but this just seems like another Griff screwup. The team would be in a better position today if he made the trade instead of worrying about the here and now like he’s been doing. ESP looks bad considering we didn’t make the playoffs which was the whole reason for not making the trade….

He simply does not fit the type of player we were looking for. He can shoot, but that’s about it. It’s a valuable skill and I’m sure we at least considered it, but not a guy we were going to give up value for, obviously. Sato, a backup PG who can defend multiple positions, and Temple, a vet presence who can also defend multiple positions, seemed to be better fits. Im not saying Lauri doesn’t have value, but no one is offering him big money or giving up value for him, or else he wouldn’t be about to play for the QO.

Griffin is obviously going for culture fits at this point, and I don’t disagree. We aren’t competing for a ring this season with or without Lauri. Our window is still a few years away.

Lauri is the kind of guy who always puts up big numbers on bad teams. He can't defend, which limits his utility on the Pelicans.

Lauri to me is a lot like Kristaps Porzingis. They both seem to be malcontents but they both also have all the talent in the world to be a 20/10 guy with ease but there just something off with him just like Porzingis. There’s just no way I’d ever risk a max deal on him. If he’s sign for something like 4 years $50 million I could get on board with it but he values himself a lot higher than that. We will just have to continue looking for our stretch 4/5 that can hit the 3 but we have some nice pieces already and should be a playoff team easily this year. I don’t think people have really realized how big of an upgrade we have at center with Val. He absolutely destroyed Billy last year when we played them.

Because he was trying to make the playoffs and moving Zo then is basically folding his hand. It didn’t work. It is what it is.
agreed. That would have been suicide if we conceded at the deadline. Im not saying our situation is butterlys right now, but that would have been a PR mistake like no other.

Right. We weren't trying to dump Zo for scraps. We were trying to upgrade from him.

He wanted around 14 million and start. So where you get that he wants a max? Ball is def closer to wanting to be a max/star player than Lauri.

Lol, thats what he wants from the Pels now because thats the best he could get at this point.

And he def wants to be paid like Zo, somebody’s confused it seems. He wants to start somewhere next season and prove it for the highest bidder. Like Zo did. If we get Lauri, its likely a rental unless he lights it up.

Lauri has had a couple of injuries.
not a great defender.

the injuries are key.
when healthy he can fill it.

It's a good comparison, as they are both soft big men. But Porzingis has shown immense talent and put up monster numbers as a two way big. That's why he is so frustrating. He should literally be a top 10 players in the league. But he fell in love with shooting and the injuries have made him played scared.

Markkanen is straight up a waste and I don't want him. It would be Ryan Anderson 2.0. Constant underachieving with everybody making excuses for him. We don't need a high priced back up for Zion. I'd rather give Milsaps 9M for a year, than deal for Markkanen. At least he will play defense..

Ryan Anderson was considered underachieving?

Ryan Anderson did underachieve after Year 1. Injuries had alot to do with it, but nonetheless, he did not live up to the contract he got.

I still say Dell, overall, wasnt as bad a GM as believed and would have succeeded if those teams could have stayed healthy and if he would have got anyone worth a damn instead of Asik, who looked solid in Chicago, no longer needed in Houston bc of the Howard acquisition, but ultimately became an instant relic and liability with the onset of small ball and the 3pt. revolution.

Also, during his tenure, its well known that in the 2012 AD draft, the player that went 1 before the Pels #10 pick, Andre Drummond, is who Dell absolutely wanted to pair AD with, and thought Detroit wouldnt draft him bc of Greg Monroe and Villanueva looking like the future frontcourt for years to come, but had to settle for Austin Rivers.

That changed the fate of the Pels with the later offseason moves Dell eventually made. What coulda been...
