No. The chances of getting another Eisenhower in the modern day are slim to none. He was definitely the exception.

Anyone voting for a career politician should be shamed. Biden has made a living in the DC bubble, he's clueless.

No military experience required, but goddamn, have some common sense.

President needs less meddling in military strategy and planning. He should simply go to the head of whatever branch and say "We need to accomplish XYZ" and give some parameters such as time and money spent. Military commanders shouldnt be awarded rank based on politics either. They should have no political ties with the presidency.

No, and yes.

You don't have to have military experience to be president, or handle things like the Afghanistan withdrawal correctly. You only have to not be a piece of shite, who doesn't care about other people. I'm not saying that's Biden, because I don't think Biden has a damn thing to do with running this country, or being it's president.

Presidents should be forced to lead the troops into battle like the old days. That would put a stop to most of the nonsense real quick

No, but dementia should be a disqualifier for President.

So which of the below Presidents top your list? Only 14 Presidents haven't served in the Military?

1. John Adams
2. John Quincy Adams
3. Martin Van Buren
4. Grover Cleveland (served two non-consecutive terms)
5. William Howard Taft
6. Woodrow Wilson
7. Warren G. Harding
8. Calvin Coolidge
9. Herbert Hoover
10. Franklin D. Roosevelt
11. Bill Clinton
12. Barrack Obama
13. Donald Trump
14. Joe Biden

Not stating that its required, but it sure does help to have an understanding of the Military.

You've kind of got that backwards. Lobbyist are the dick suckers. That's how a politician becomes a multi-millionaire after 50 years in politics.

career military vets haven't been the best presidents, I think having some mil experience, especially having been in harm's way, is not a bad thing

I love it when folks make these extreme pronouncements only to realize that it would disqualify someone they favor. Let me guess, you don’t think Hollywood types should get involved in politics either? Just shut up and act!

going back to dubya, all of our presidents, and most of their elder staff, were more or less draft dodgers, I think that's why it's so easy for them to send kids to die

You are correct in pointing out the problem with that “political class” that has been created in this country. While it shouldn’t automatically dq someone it is more often than not a negative. People focus too much on the letter in parenthesis after the name as well.

This, 3 terms max for a senator. 5 terms max for a representative. The unfortunate side effect will be an increase in the lobbyist class, but that should sort itself out through cannibalism.

In fact, we should change the rules so that SECDEF is not allowed to be a former military at all.

The current rule is that they cannot have served in the last 7 years. However, even that has been bypassed for the last several appointees.
