Closed on our land last week and after walking around some and running the bush hog I now realize that I’m going to need a good brushcutter with a blade.

I’ve looked at Stihl, Echo, Shindaiwa, and Red Max
Only online however.

Just based on online research, I’m heavily leaning to the Echo SRM 410
The stihl are crazy expensive and I’m not sure that they’re justifiably priced higher (almost double)

Anyone have experience with one that you’d recommend?

ETA: DAMNED THE CHIGGERS... I have bites all over me.

Congrats on the land purchase. You talking about weed eater style cutters?

From my experience!
1. Shindawia
2. Stihl
3. Echo
4. Red Max (3&4) neck and neck

I have an echo and a Shindawia and the Shindawia is beast! My Echo is a solid machine but seems vastly under powered.

And as far as the red bugs. Backpack sprayer filled with Demon will kill ALL!

Redmax. When comparing look at cc’s and weight too.

I’d buy some OFF first, though.

Repel Sportsman at Walmart. 40% Deet. Spray shoes pants and bare area of legs under pants.

That one will be a little bit out of the budget.

I have 2 Stihl Fs 55 's with the saw blade.

It does work well. Very well. After winter non use, the following spring usually does require a shot of Berryman cleaner up the fuel line.

I also have an Echo, forgot the model. It is very nice also. Starts first pull every time. Not quite as powerful engine as the FS 55

Not sure, but it wouldn't be strong enough for what I'm needing to do.

I have a dam on both sides to clean up after 3-4 years of neglect. Also have a lot of small trees (1-3" in diameter) in the bottom of my property that I will need to get into and clean up. Plus a lot of blackberry bushes.

ETA: I did buy the Echo. It had a 42cc motor and half the price of the Stihl.

Why not a Stihl Kombi power head with straight shaft brushcutter? You can add a pole saw, power scythe, straight shaft trimmer as needed.

Run the pre-mix fuel, saves a lot of carb problems.

We had a theft at our deer camp and needed a hand held trimmer and brush cutter. I have a Stihl combiunit at home for the past 10 or so years and it's an absolute beast. Last weekend we realized we not longer had a trimmer after the theft and went to home depot for other stuff and bought the Echo combo unit.

It starts easily but has no where near the HP of the Stihl. It runs well no nocks against it but for cutting small diameter trees it's underpowered IMO.

I already have those. Not the kombi, but the pole saw and straight shaft trimmer.

Find you a used Stihl FS250, I don't like Stihl products but to give credit where it's due that was a great unit for a brush cutter

If your looking at shindaiwa then you might as well get the echo. I was told they are the same and pretty much all parts are interchangeable now.

Shindaiwa is a legendary leader in the outdoor power equipment industry. ... The Shindaiwa brand is manufactured and distributed by ECHO Incorporated, headquartered in Lake Zurich, IL, a Chicago suburb.
