I didn’t get the sense that the documentary was solely blaming an angry white male complex (which was totally a thing in ‘99; look at my handle, I participated ). Rather you had 350k people, some of whom bought into that mentality, at a shitty venue for a massive festival with terrible conditions and a shitty organization and a poorly assembled collection of artists.
Like angry white guys or not, when you have that many people in those conditions and little to no enforcement of any kind of basic order or provision of necessities then shite is going to go South. The promoters were/are delusional and I at least agree with the sentiment expressed that we have a major problem in this country of the older generations refusing to pass the baton out of fear of the younger generation

I got the sense that it was less the individual bands and more stacking Limp Bizkit, RATM, and Metallica on top of one another 48 hours into what was already a shitshow before they even hit the stage. Like playing some progressive bands by day only to cap the night with numetal and hard rock bands. I mean of course bad shite happened

1. They were trying to imitate the mud stuff from Woodstock 94.
2. In 100 degree heat with 400,000 with body odor all over the place, I imagine it could be hard to distinguish mud from shite due to the over-stimulation of people’s smelling senses.

ah, i thought i was worth the time, there's a lot of good stuff, ok sure they are trying to paint a woke narrative and blame "angry white boys" and to extent "corporate greed" but there are some issues with that culture that bubbled up and with all the other shite going on, (its super hot, there was not enough security or maintenance/clean up, long lines for even the atm, the stages were almost a mile apart) all that combines with some aggressive music its not surprising things got out of hand

Of those 50, the really aggressive ones were
Korn
Limp Bizkit
RATM
Kid Rock
Metallica
And maybe one or two others. But that’s still leaves 40 or so bands that were relatively “chill.”
right but Limp Bizkit/RATM/Metallica played back to back to back to END day 2. So you've got a crowd thats drunk fricking hot and miserable over the shitty conditions for 2 days and then have those 3 bands, that's just a powder keg

I don’t know how RATM’s political ideology fits into the documentary’s narrative
it doesn't. that's why they barely showed them but clearly that music is very aggressive and yes very angry but since they are angry commies/not white frat boys its good angry so its cool.

Just last year there were videos of many staunch right wing conservatives blasting RATM during Trump rallies and events. They’re a pretty easy band to get caught up in without knowing any lyrics beyond the chorus of their songs

I loathe their politics but the music is incredible, and it will definitely get up amped up

This whole thing was typical boomer narrative. The first Woodstock so much better. Blah blah blah. Woodstock sucks. Outdoor music festivals always sucked. Just as many girls got raped or groped in the 60s, they just accepted it. Then they raised those kids and tried to convince them disco was cool for the next forty years. Boomers worst generation and it’s not close.

They grew up hearing how wild the original one was and wanted to match it.

Nobody gave a shite about Fred Durst. He was like the Joe cocker of rock n rap. Everyone knew they sucked. That kinda corporate rock concert crap pretty much destroyed music. Thanks boomer. Nobody good was at the first Woodstock either just future corporate rock losers.

I got to this and turned it off. How ridiculous. When are people going to get over themselves and get over a word. No, don’t get mad at the dude who wrote the song. Let’s chastise the people who sing along.

Fred Durst was one of the most popular frontmen of that time

If you like Fred Durst and we’re over twelve years old at the time, you were a complete dbag. Sorry but that’s a fact.

I remember at the time the narrative was more a changing of the crowd/attitude. They said everyone was peace and love until those 3 were lined up. Then the jocks and frat boys showed up and caused all the trouble. As someone that fit that bill at the time I remember thinking it was bullshite. “Angry white male” was the narrative at the time. It wasn’t a woke thing for this documentary.
