Sling Price Rising Again

Just got an email that my Sling package is going up another $7 to a total of $77 (we have all the packages) in August. I might as well go back to cable at this point.

I hope that doesn’t happen to YouTube- I really like not having all the wires, ease of setup, and especially the price

The price used to be about $15 less per month several months ago.
I agree with you that it is nice not having any set top boxes or wires to deal with. Also, not having a contract is great, but the disadvantage is they can raise prices whenever they want. Lastly, unlike cable or satellite, you’re not speaking with anyone to get a better retention deal. The price with YTTV is what it is.
I received noticed that 4K is available for YTTV. For an additional price. WTF?

Yeah, the price increases suck, but it's still better than cable. You don't have to 'rent' any equipment. And you can watch something wherever you go.

I'm fine with these optional price increases.

Definitely not paying more for that.

Yes, I agree. The platform to watch TV on the go with YTTV is so much better because it is native to how YTTV was created vs. makeshift apps from the big cable and satellite companies.

I would love if a provider came up with a pricing model that allows a customer to pick a number of channels for x price per month. As it stands right now, there are only a handful of channels we watch. The others to us are meaningless.
4K should be included in base price with YTTV. I’d love to get the most out of my TV but like you, I am not willing to pay extra for that.

the 4k isn't all you get with YTTV for the added price. You also go from 3 streams to 20 streams with YTTV if you get the 4k package.

I removed all my Cox stuff last week including a DVD player and a Apple TV set up- and I was like damn all these wires. I unhooked an old plasma tv - geez. I’m glad I didn’t pay top dollar for those gold wires or whatever they were called from Best Buy years ago. What a waste.

Debating here whether to go back to cable.
We mostly watch sports and AMC and losing the pause/rewind/ff feature of the cable DVR really sucked.
But the price difference was worth it.
Now I'm not so sure.
We pay netflix, sling blue and orange and ESPN direct plus something with Amazon... but that might be included in prime.
Or I should look into a home brewed DVR that can suck all that content in, even OTA? Might be a better solution. Ain't nobody got time for all this.

Probably huge for Mormon households.

Yeah I just started the free month of 4K. Figured it could be cool for the olympics. Only way I’ll keep it is if they have a bunch of football games in 4K. But not getting my hopes up.

I just returned all my Cox equipment this week and kept Internet. I have ATT for phone and added AT&T TV streaming and love it. My Cox was going up to $470 next month and now I have all the channels with a $90 Att deal, no contract. I’ll take that 365.

Why go through a provider when you can launch you're own direct streaming service for 10+ dollars a month.
The cable system sucked but the current incarnation of "a la carte" is way worse imo. Annoying as hell having like 6 different streaming accounts/apps/bills

Does YTTV allow you to watch it away from your house unlike Hulu Live?

That will never happen because the networks are holding them hostage on their contracts. The networks force them to carry shitty channels if they want the good ones.
Switching providers is not the answer, forcing the FCC to do something about the package deals the stream, sat, and cable companies are forced to agree to is the answer.

YTTV is easy to split between multiple households and the 20 streams makes it even better. Great way to get the costs down to $15/month or so and you can even include households with kids.
