named with racist slurs or offensive language.

Congressional Democrats introduced a bill Friday to rename more than 1,000 places in the US named with offensive language and racist slurs.

Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Edward Markey, and Rep. Al Green introduced the bill along with 25 cosponsors in the House of Representatives, all Democrats.

Lawmakers first introduced the bill last year with Rep. Deb Haaland, who now serves as the secretary of the interior as the first Native American cabinet secretary in US history.

"We need to immediately stop honoring the ugly legacy of racism and bigotry, and that's why I'm introducing the Reconciliation in Place Names Act with my colleagues," Warren said in a statement.

This is what they feel are the most pressing issues we face? What about that "worst threat since the Civil War" position Asterisk took last week?

This is a silly argument you are making. No congress in US history has ever worked on only the most pressing issue they faced. If it should be fixed, then they are right to do it. (I have no idea if these are good ideas or bad ones, but I expect the latter).

Anybody know of a mountain, lake or Forrest that has a racist slur for a name? How'd they find a hundred, much less a thousand.
That search had to take a few minutes.

How many times do Lewis and Clark appear on that list?

How many good people are they going to erase from history?

It is important. They’re erasing our culture.

It’s telling that they’ve made it such a priority.

They’re dyed in the wool racists doing somersaults and cartwheels to convince blacks/Hispanics their racist policies aren’t racist.

Democrats are nothing if they aren't good at incredible waste of time, energy and money.

Now if these gestures help make America a more just, verdant and peaceful place, and soothe the pain of centuries of racism and discrimination, isn't it worth doing? It could be a worthwhile social investment -- ¿quién sabe?
