But it's COVID money, who cares? Where does this dude think the money will come from next year?

quote:

New East Baton Rouge Parish schools leader Sito Narcisse is continuing to remake and expand the Central Office, recently announcing the hiring of four high level administrators from outside the district and the promotion of four more from within.

These are the latest in a series of hires Narcisse has made since taking over the state’s second largest traditional school district in January, home to more than 40,000 students. He has generally looked outside, often out of state.

His senior cabinet has expanded from 13 to 16 members and features seven new faces, six in newly created positions.

And he’s not done. Still to be hired are several more new administrative positions: deputy chief of policy, director of equity & diversity, director of multi-tiered systems of support, literacy innovation coordinator, district 504 coordinator and lead social worker.

Narcisse, a Long Island, N.Y. native who’s worked in many large school districts but is new to Louisiana, is paying for this burst of hiring with a mix of local funds and federal COVID relief money.

When he started, Narcisse said his reorganization would ultimately prove “budget neutral.” So far, that’s not the case. Just the cost of the senior cabinet has grown from $1.5 to $2.3 million compared with before he arrived, a 51% increase.

Good, I expect we’ll see many more Asians on the basketball teams in the area.

And in the name of equity, I look forward to seeing North Baton Rouge paying a Bigger share of school taxes. Fair is fair, right?

We just need a new education task force community oversight board commission to provide equity to our at-risk students and communities. Lunch will be provided.

WTF does a school superintendent need a 16 person panel of nitwits for?

Just ask The Advocate their shitty opinion on how to maintain the status quo in our education system. They'll give it to you for free.

The new director of equity and diversity has his work cut out for him. Minority enrollment is 89% of the student body (majority black) in EBR.

Because the last 50 did so well.....

How can you look at this and NOT sympathize with people in St. George wanting to set up their own school district?

Bureaucracy 101.
Something like updating a problematic and outdated HVAC unit could save money on Utilities and repairs down the road.

Instead hire a bunch of people that will automatically increase the budget. Then you can go crying to the taxpayers when their kids are sitting in classrooms without A/C when that HVAC finally bites the dust.

Don’t forget about the leaky roofs. Remember years ago when they wanted to raise taxes to fix school roofs and Fred Dent found all the roofing materials in some warehouse? Don’t maintain the infrastructure, grow the staff. That’s always a recipe for fiduciary responsibility.

This is exactly the root of all problems in Louisiana, no matter how high the taxes are, no matter how many grants they get, no matter how much federal money the fricking corrupt idiots will just line their pockets and hardly any will reach the actual people

Exactly. Anybody who doesn't get it doesn't want to get it.

Screw computers, text books, and salaries for better teachers. Let's hire more politicians.

Interesting.

We were going to use some of our COVID funds in our district to increase the number of Mental Health Practitioners based in schools. We were told that money couldn't be used to establish longer term positions.

Time for a good old fashioned audit.
