this is a good response to the rachel/shane question
quote:
I was so conflicted about the fact that Rachel decides to go back to Shane in the end.
I always knew she’d go back to him. There was something about her, even in the way she’s approaching him; it’s like someone who wants to get a response. Honestly, it feels true to life for me. I’ve seen peers who may not have been in this exact situation. She’s started to feel the limits of what she thinks she’s capable of, and it’s the reality of the seduction of a lifestyle. Some people read it as cynical; to me, the thing that I feel about Shane is that even though he is a privileged a-hole, he does really love her. Even if it’s just an idea of her.

Hes just a hyper-realist.
She wanted him to bullshite her and appease her naive worldview at every turn.
He straight up, for better or worse, called it EXACTLY as it was at every turn with zero tact.
She confused her hate for the world he was pointing out for hate for him.

right, and she also finally became self-aware of the fact that maybe she just isnt all that special/talented/whatever and she'd better figure out a way to make the marriage she willingly entered into work, or she'll be living with roommates and working at sonic the rest of her life

Absolutely. Sorry you didnt get to "take advantage of a sad, lonely, rich woman and 'get yours'" as you and your son had schemed.
frick off bitch.
Agreed. I thought she got out of it ahead actually. You get a wad of cash to help get you to your own business and you can run it without this clearly insane woman being around.

I'd love to know the denomination of the bills in the envelope. Even if they were 20s, that had to be at least 20k.
That's a pretty good tip for a few messages and listening to someone's crazy drama for a few days. But she just tosses it into the drawer like it was a piece of junk mail.

Finished it, and I can’t say I really enjoyed it. Found it to be quite exhausting actually. I probably would’ve quit the show early on if it wasn’t for Armond. It’s been a while since I’ve hated a character as much as I hated Paula. Lol

I can relate...even though I ended up really enjoying it.
There were a lot of things said(especially in dinner conversations with Zahn's family) that were a breath of fresh air to hear in a contemporary tv show and the character arc for Paula pretty much confirms that Mike White was making a lot of the points that it seemed like he was hinting at in the earlier episodes.
Give him bonus points for being a gay writer that isn't afraid to create a show that could be considered a middle finger to a lot of these other "woke" tv shows.

Is everyone just going to ignore the puking scene? Was it because:
- Sea sickness
- Sick over the drama of Kai's arrest and her plan backfiring and that she may do time
- Preggars. It's a little too early after banging him for a week but who knows. I hope a season 2 will be green lit.

I'm hoping that she's pregnant and can't get any child support because her reparations plan put baby daddy in prison.
Also hoping that Olivia changes her mind and turns her in for giving up the combination.
I just assumed that she was sick from stressing about whether Olivia was going to rat her out.

It was renewed and season 2 will be a whole new cast. Anthology style. Maybe small amount of crossover.

HBO has ordered another season of Mike White’s “The White Lotus,” a vicious, buzzy satire set at an ornate Hawaiian resort. According to HBO, its second installment will leave Hawaii “and follows a different group of vacationers as they jet to another White Lotus property and settle in temporarily amongst its inhabitants.”

finally just watched the finale, the actual shitting scene was...well, quite surprising. I get the ending and the messaging but in retrospect having seen all of it, I don't think I would have watched weekly, or really cared, had it not been for covid and the lack of new/renewed content (which may have been the whole idea behind the show honestly lol).

It just hit me how random and completely pointless the whole "new girl who was pregnant and went into labor" subplot was. Did they even mention her again after the second episode?
Posted on 8/18/21 at 7:51 am to CocomoLSU
Nope
here is the writer's explanation
Kai was in several episodes, so I don't get the comparison to him
he kinda hints that maybe she left the bubble or something so they couldn't shoot anymore scenes with her

quote:
In the first episode, you introduce Lani, a pregnant hotel employee who gives birth in the resort. We never see her again, and I found myself thinking about her constantly in the later episodes. I wondered what happened to her!
It’s not just her, too. We meet Kai and then he just disappears. There’s a practical aspect to that, which is that we were forced to shoot in the bubble, so other than when we were out on the boats, we couldn’t shoot anything else. That was the mandate.
But I thought it would be interesting to do that. At the very beginning, [Armond says], “We’re interchangeable helpers.” It’s like they don’t exist, this idea that once they exit the hotel, they’re pulverized, they vanish. I thought that would be maybe controversial, but it’s like a steamrolling. The people waving in the beginning, by the end they’ve been replaced, and it’s like the experience of these hotel guests — oh, she had a baby, he’s in jail, whatever. My hope is that the critique of that is built into the DNA of it.

not at all. I really thought the show just portrayed how rich people really don't give a shite about anyone else but themselves.

Right, but it's really not "rich people" since the hotel workers didn't give a shite about her either.
And I know she was new and that was her first/second day and all, but you'd still think at least someone (Armond even) would care.

I never felt once that they were trying to win us over to Paula’s side. She was terrible from the opening scene. I actually enjoy the fact that they portrayed her as such a selfish person.
They absolutely portrayed her as selfish person but that didn’t stop the Reddit types to buying her as some hero
