I was offered a job with a substantial pay increase, with the catch being its located in around Pecos / Odessa Texas. How bad is it really out there? I think the job will be headquartered in the middle of those two towns. I do know there's not much in Pecos and the surrounding area. Odessa is alittle better, but I'm still not hearing great things there either. Any help will be appreciated guys.

You could live in midland and drive the 45 minutes to pecos. Pecos sucks pretty bad.

If you like a lot of space and good Mexican food.....you are in luck. Midland is honestly not that bad unless you really need to be near the amenities of a larger city.

I don't know anything about Pecos though.

If you close your eyes and think of hell, that is Midland/Odessa or really anywhere in the Permian. If you are in O&G and haven't made a tour in that shitehole, then you need to go just to check it off the list though.

Yeah one third of your time is spent working and another third is spent sleeping. Access to cultural and recreational activities is overrated for most people. Most days all your going to do is come home, eat and veg out on the computer for a while before crashing.

I make several trips a year to Midland/Odessa for work.

If I was younger & single, then I probably would've taken an offer to work out there full time at some point. No chance I'd do that with a family though.

Wind blows the dust just like buckshot
There's snakes in the shade
Choya on the grade
And a half a ton of grit between my teeth

I would be hesitant to buy out there. Prices may have come down but before the crash people were asking 400k for a house worth 200k in any major city. Years back I was pressured into moving there but didn't. If I would have bought I house I would have lost a ton when the oilfield took a shite. Keep that in mind that its a one horse town. Not gonna be many people looking for a house if you leave when the oilfield falls out. Would rather drive 12 hours when I got done with a job. That says alot

If you like wide open spaces and dust it is great. If you like civilization, not so much.

The good news it is in the middle of no where.

Its bad.

I have to go out there regularly and I ask myself how much it would take for me to move out there every time I go, and I don't know the number yet.

It would need to be a extremely substantial pay increase.
