From a couple days ago. The computer thing makes perfect sense honestly:
Except that the head scientist said that it only turned on when the mothership arrived. It was dead tech before then.

The dog jumping to safety with the roaring fire behind him is the GOAT moment of that movie. Incredible job, dog.

It's a fun "turn off your brain for a couple of hours" movie.
It's biggest flaw is convincing Michael Bay that all you need are explosions to make a good movie.

The special effects hold up well, the story holds up fine, and it’s the perfect movie to show that the world can unite to fight a greater enemy.
It’s a great popcorn flick, but the invasion plan used by the aliens in Falling Skies made a lot more sense. They set off EMPs in the atmosphere that knocked out all power and communications before nuking major metropolitan areas from the air. They then deployed ground troops immediately, something the aliens in Independence Day never got a chance to do.

That's fair, but that's when it became functional though, and all the little extra shite inside turned on. They've still had it hooked to their computers and analyzing it for five decades.
Like I said, I'm not saying it's above reproach, but it's definitely understandable how he (a computer genius) could connect to it and make the virus angle work.

one of the greatest sci fi movies of alltime.
It's fun but it's not sci fi. I don't know that I can argue the definition, but I know it when I see it. Star Wars isn't. Moon is. Arrival is. Interstellar is. Inception maybe.
Liked them all.

Goldblums character is a huge eco-warrior who bitches about recycling
Every damn recycling can he opened to place things in are full of only Coca Cola cans. I laughed my arse off when I noticed this, younger me did not understand product placement back in the day.

Loses point for the Air Force guys laughing in disbelief at Russell Casse for saying he was abducted by aliens when they are literally planning an air strike against aliens.

I remember going to see Broken Arrow staring John Travolta and Christian Slater.
Before the movie, Teaser Trailer for Independence Day premiered. I was so excited about ID4, that I was kind of pissed that I had to watch Broken Arrow instead.

I introduced my fiancée to this movie about 5 years ago, she had never seen it. She's not a big fan of sci-fi, war movies, and the like, but she loved ID4.
To me, that's the mark of a great summer blockbuster.

Independence Day is one of those movies I'll stop and watch when flipping through the channels, no matter what point it's at in the movie. I loved that movie as a teenager; it has good nostalgic value to me.

You literally spelled it out
The inconsistency of them standing on the brink of an alien invasion laughing at a guy claiming to be abducted by aliens.
It’s meant to be tongue in cheek - not everything is meant to be a knee slapper

Bill Pullman was terrible as president

Naw not buying it. In fact, considering they filmed the alternate ending where they don't let him fly and he does the suicide mission with his cropduster they probably screwed up and left them doubting him in the movie.

To this day one of my top 2 favorite movie theater experiences with The Matrix slightly holding the edge.
