Out with that shithead Bahnsen and in with Maureen Marshall Johnson. Scott, this could be two home run hires in one.

A decade later, she's Nevada's top compliance officer — with the lofty title of "Associate Athletic Director, Compliance, Special Assistant to the President" — and the person who Wolf Pack football coach Brian Polian calls, "the single-biggest advocate on our campus for our student-athletes." "She deserves a ton of credit," Polian said. "She works hard for our kids. I trust her implicitly because she was an athlete and she's been at big-time places. There are some people who live in the world of, 'No.' They just tell you, 'No.' I've been at those places. Maureen is a person who says, 'You can't do that, but tell me what you're trying to achieve. What's the end goal? We'll find a way to do it together.'"

Marshall drew a high-profile case at Nevada last season with Wolf Pack center A.J. West, whose eligibility was in question by the NCAA. Marshall joked that an entire year of her life was devoted to his case — "I'd wake up every day thinking about A.J. West," she said — but her persistence paid off. Marshall was able to get West eligible midway through last year, basically saving the Wolf Pack's season, and this summer she got him an extra year of eligibility. It's that persistence that has made her one of the most-liked employees at Nevada.

Thanks to SportJunkie69 for linking this on another thread. I thought it deserved one of its own.

Doesn't it seem like there would be some sort of conflict of interest to have a head coach's wife in charge of compliance?

Hey, give her some kind of title. This woman is an attorney and I’m sure she wants to continue her career in athletics administration. I’m not going to research it—I don’t know when she and Jay got married, but she may have been working Compliance at Nevada when he was baseball coach there.

And if he doesn’t work out does she leave too? Or if Scott isn’t happy with her performance does Jay leave? The conflict isn’t just with compliance issues.

I would guess LSU won't hire her, lest the NCAA decided to go witch hunting on the LSU baseball program, there would be whispers of our head of compliance having a conflict of interest.
Of course, I have no reason to believe Johnson would run a dirty program. I'm just going with how I figure LSU will look at it.

Yeah, I have to say this is a little bizarre. Don't piss one or the other off or they both gone?

This does seem to be a conflict of interest.

As far as compliance officers go that's damn near a 9 IMO

Yeah…it’d be tough to live comfortably on just his salary. ??

Yeah yeah, I realize there could be complications and maybe it’s wishful thinking.
But hell, put in in writing where she is head Compliance officer for everything EXCEPT baseball. I know firsthand that’s the way the AD had handled other potential conflict-of-interest issues.
She is a highly qualified athletics administrator who knows the rules but finds a way to get things done FOR the student athlete.
Would you rather have her handling football and basketball compliance issues or untouchable Bahnsen finding a way to screw LSU athletics instead of finding a positive way forward?

His bio said they got married in 2016 which by that time he was at Arizona.

Not sure how it could be taken any other way but introducing JJ’s highly qualified wife, but sorry for any confusion. I edited the title.

She certainly has impressive credentials.
Not sure having her as compliance director is the best move at this time.
But it sure would be great if LSU could find someone other than Bahnsen for that post.

I mean, the current president* of the United States and his entire family is a walking, talking, conflict of interest. Our entire government at every level and every state and federal agency is chock-full of conflicts of interest.
In this day and age it seems anything goes, so let's geaux!
