I hope Scott Woodward fails all the way down to Dan McDonnell. That would be the most fortuitous failure I've ever witnessed.

The only options that would make this extended search worth it are Vitello and Corbin
Godwin would be a home run hire

What is the rush? You have a young team that is mostly coming back and most of the 2021 recruiting is done. I have no issue with letting all the coaches you want to talk to finish their season and you go talk to them then make a decision.

It’s McDonnell.

Godwin is a damn good coach and would be a terrific hire. Settle? Nah that wouldn’t be a settle.

They have until July 1 to make their intentions known re: Transfer Portal and the draft is July 11th.

I guarantee you we'll have a coach before then.

For all we know, Woodward may have already been in negotiations with his top or one of his top targets before the College World Series even started. That negotiation may have stalled and now Woodward is feigning interest in top targets that are coaching right now in Omaha in an effort to try to get that original target motivated to accept or start negotiating again.

Woodward may be calling the bluff of an earlier negotiation and/or teasing out a better deal with that target using false flirtations with others. It also could be doing double duty by financially squeezing our competition in-conference and creating tension between competing coaches and their AD.

It's like some of you never look past your nose. Even if you never been a part of any high-stakes negotiation, I'm sure all of us has at least purchased a car or used goods before.

Exactly what you said is why I think McDonnell may be still in play. Some have said “if it was McDonnell it would be done already.”

To your point, they may be negotiating with McDonnell by showing sincere interest in other candidates still playing.

“Look, if you’re stuck on having a $10 million buyout, unfortunately we’re going to have to continue our search and look at other candidates that want the job. Let us know if you change your mind, don’t wait too long though because we may have another coach by then.”

Not sure why everyone is fixated on the length of the search. Better to take more time and get the right person.
