Going to Cancun next Wednesday and just realized my passport is expired.

Possible to get one renewed before we fly out?

You should be able to. Pay for the expedited service and you can go to the office in new Orleans if you need to. It can be done in under 24 hours if absolutely necessary

I think the only place in the state to get them expedited is in NOLA. Other than that, you would have to pay for the overnight services online.

I used Rushmypassport.com when I needed to get one quickly for an employee of mine.

ETA looks like there is no more 48 hours turnaround on Rushmypassport. Covid must have killed that.

It is unlikely. Appointments are getting snatched up (often by companies that “help” you get appointments). We just received a renewed passport for one of my kids that we applied for over a month ago. We had to call our US congresswoman’s office (who actually was helpful). I assume many people are applying for renewals now that travel is opening up.

I went through this very recently getting a passport for a child.

CALL YOUR CONGRESSMAN.

Unless something changed very recently, it is almost impossible to get an expedited passport. We weren't able to get an appointment for any office in the entire United States.

You can do the application at a post office as usual. But it will take a long time to get the passport processed. A congressman's office can make some calls to get it processed in a day or two.

You don't actually need the appointment. The appointment is to go to the passport office and have the passport processed on the spot within 3 days of travel. The problem is that the appointments are practically nonexistent right now.

Clear this all with Graves' office first.

Go to the post office to do the passport application. (Normally, the post office would send it to one of any number of passport offices which would then take weeks to process your passport.)

You will take the application in a sealed envelope and then express mail or FedEx it to the NOLA passport office. Graves' people should be able to pull some strings at the NOLA passport office to get them to process your renewal right away (and they may have already talked to the NOLA passport office people and told them to be expecting your application).

The post office application person might not want to let you take the application if you don't have a letter from Graves' office saying they are dealing with the passport.

The short version is: call Graves' office first thing in the morning and ask for help getting a passport. They can probably get the passport people to process your passport right away.
