Are they reopening or not?

Not
That area will become a sportsbook

I thought about that, but I feel like the casino/hotel phone operator wouldn't have a clue

New Orleans has poker, Lake Charles has poker, Shreveport has poker, Bossier City has poker, Kinder has poker. But no poker in BR, the 2nd largest city in the state.

I hear all kinds of rumors. One is the sportsbook taking over and the poker room will move up front of the casino. Another is that the will reopen the room in September. Who knows. One question I have is what will happen to the bad beat jackpot money.

Probably not, but their main job is to transfer you to someone who knows.

It’s why Hanagriff quit his job

Poker room makes 0 money no reason for them to open it back up.

Plan is to make the current poker room a sports book and move the poker room up front. Hope they hurry since its the closest one with Omaha to me

Actually the casino never take a loss on it. Only profits.

I don't think it will reopen. My understanding is the dealers were asked to be dual rate employees and said GTFO. The new management team at Lauberge has no idea how to manage a casino IMO. They've been taking resources away and implementing stupid policies for years now.
Even before the shut down it was a pain in the arse to buy more than a few hundred in chips without having to show your ID every time.

Yeah but the profit margins are terrible. They make significantly more from a row of slots versus an entire poker room. A poker room these days is a tool to attract people to your casino to lose money elsewhere.

This only applies to rooms that aren't run well. A well run room can be a profit machine.
The idiots in middle and upper management don't understand it because the McKinsey consultants they hire show them fancy power point presentations.

Not compared to slots. Poker just can't compete.

Of course not. There are more people playing slots than poker, cheaper operating expense, and slots "rake" is at a higher rate. But that doesn't mean poker is unnecessary. Let's say you have 900 slot machines and that's way beyond need to satisfy customers demand. So adding 30 more machines isn't going to do much. Why not use that space for 5-6 poker tables that customers have demand for. The ice cream machine at McDonalds will never compete with the burgers or fries. But you still need it if you want satisfy as much customers as possible and maximize profit.

I understand. I've just seen a bunch of poker rooms die for this reason. That's always the justification.
*ETA: my friend was a pro player in Vegas and he told me Vegas has a certification that basically requires a poker room. Some casinos lose their arse on having to have one

This is inaccurate.

I can think of a handful of strip casinos off the top of my head that don't have poker rooms.
