more than that they are given way too much air time for their political and social grievances.

They are paid what they are worth. What do you propose happen, the franchises give most of their money to the government?
Your criticism should be people care about sports so much they are willing to spend a lot of their time and money on it. If people cared far less about sports, these teams wouldn’t be raking in cash to pay these athletes millions in the first place. Not that I feel that way, but it’s a more valid criticism.

Honestly, athletes are pretty low on the list of people who make more than they deserve. It’s hard work and, in some cases, does physical damage they have to reckon with later in life.
If we’re going to complain about things like this we should probably start with social media influencers and skanks with OF accounts. Bottom line though, you’re worth what someone is willing to pay you.

Anyone agree? God given talent but millions is too much.

Like NFL Sunday Ticket. MLB extra innings. Or just listening to a broadcast on the mlb app. If you're a true NFL junkie you can spend thousands of dollars on sports a year.

They’re paid too much in the sense that they’re too valuable to actually put their bodies on the line the way they used to. Which is why they got so highly paid to begin with. Now they load manage and are softening up the physicality of the sports because they can’t afford to lose those players to injury because they’re worth too much.
If that makes sense. Used to be guys didn’t have nearly as much on the line so they played hard. Now we clearly see guys score big contracts and then coast because in reality they’re getting paid no matter what. Basically every player is turning into Roger Dorne from Major League.

No, because I like capitalism. I, the consumer, spends my money on their entertainment services. They in turn pay their bills, players, and employees based on their income.
Capitalism is boss.

I think it’s hilarious they make that many millions and still find a way to go broke

So they should share the wealth with everyone less talented? I guess it’s not fair that professional athletes had the drive to work their entire lives to get where they are, while the rest of us weren’t willing to put in the work.
This may be a top 5 dumb post in hist.

You spending g the money is what allows them to pay the players so much. Salary caps are based on money coming in.
NFL is slightly less than 50% of NFL revenues divided by 32. If people stopped spending all their money on NFL the athletes would get paid less.

It is extremely hard to make major dollars in pro sports. For example, in baseball, if you even make it out the minors, you have to have 3 years of service to even arbitrate your contract from the league minimum. Arbitration is usually 3-4 years. After the arb contract years you become a unrestricted free agent and can negotiate your own salary, but even then, thats usually after 7 full years of MLB service.

No they're paid fair market value.

How bout the owners make more and taxpayers paying for their stadiums?
Posted on 6/17/21 at 10:24 am to rebel cat
People in this country are willing to pay astronomical amounts of money for tickets, merchandise, ability to watch, etc. They get paid what the market dictates they get paid.
This country does have a problem with celebrity worship, but that's a different topic.

I disagree. Their take home money that they make out of their contract really isn’t that much once taxes and union dues and everything are taken out.
I actually think agents are paid way too much. I read an interview with Steph Curry where he said that his agent makes 3%, and that is way, way too much for an agent

I think they should be paid their worth and if that is the market value...good for them.
Now if they really want to be WOKE and talk about social injustices...They should put a CAP of yearly earnings...
Examples:
Any player in the NFL/NBA/MLB etc, that is paid over $10MM year (league pay and Endorsements), should be capped at $10MM and any $$ over that amount should fund Social Programs and League players that make significantly less than them..
Put your $$ where your mouth is

The argument can be made fringe roster players are paid too much, but stars are paid too little due to salary caps / floors.
