This guy got the L’ville job same year CPM came here:

- has 4 fewer wins
- 0 national titles
- same # of CWS appearances
- same # of seasons missed Regionals (although his is THIS FRICKING YEAR)
- plays in a weaker league

What is the deal? How is this an upgrade?

You think we have some magic that is going to make him have a higher ceiling here? If that’s the case, we might as well get Bianco.

Godwin needs to be #1. He’s the only one who has clearly done more with less.

You only like him bc he had a semi-b*tch session about COVID restrictions.

He’s a great coach but it is a pretty strange infatuation

One guy took over a program with one regional appearance and no interest in baseball and one guy took over a program that has the most support in college baseball and the 2nd most titles of all time.

The answer lies in recruiting

And it’s true for all of Godwin, McDonnell, or Bianco….all would start having a 1-5 class instead of a 15-20 class (30+ class in the case of Godwin)

So you're pointing out that Mainieri came to LSU (elite program with huge support), and McDonnell went to fricking Louisville, a place with no tradition, that had made exactly 1 regional in their entire history, and their resume almost matches?

You don't think that's significant?

McDonnell has been to 5 CWS in his 14 seasons at Louisville. Can you remind us how many CWS Godwin has been to in his 6 seasons at ECU? I'll hang up and listen.

ACC is a legit baseball conference

UNC, Clemson, Miami, FSU, UVA, UL are all really good programs

We just witnessed NC State take down the best SEC school and ND might do the same tomorrow.

Lemme guess. Despite saying you want Godwin you REALLY want Bianco.

THAT is 100% "on-brand" for the LSU good ol' boy network.

You only want Godwin because you’re obsessed with Orgeron and think they look alike. See how this works?

Why is making a few Supers with ECU doing more with less, but making the CWS with Louisville is not?

Typical rantings from another "look at these numbers" fan, who has no use for context. Mainieri, for all the success he had early on, did not build LSU. McDonnell built Louisville, and he has nowhere near the kind of resources or national brand of LSU baseball.

He's not my #1 choice, but he's certainly 2 or 3. Mainieri had been a coach a long time before he Came to LSU, and had one CWS appearance. But he built Notre Dame, so LSU gave him a shot, and he obviously did more here with what he had to work with.

Now, we've seen a downward trend, and it's time to move on and he obviously knew that, otherwise he would have made LSU fire him.

They only like him because he's the new bandwagon all the cool posters have jumped on. First, all the ranters were on the Vitello bandwagon but when the wheels came off they looked through threads to find the new 'it' candidate. Currently it's McDonnell. It'll be interesting to see which way the wind blows tomorrow.

I’ll say it for the way too manyeth time. I think Cliff Godwin is the man for LSU baseball. His teams don’t make mistakes in the field, or running the bases, they hot for power and average, and can definitely pitch it. They have faired well against the Goliath conferences. With more talent it could be special for a long time.
