Being against gun violence and being for gun control aren’t necessarily the same thing.
If CMT explicitly comes out as pro-gun control, their audience will be smaller than BET’s.

I think CMT had the right idea but they missed the mark. They should have said,
We're urging our viewers to wear orange in support of the many innocent children killed every year from gang violence in Chicago, Baltimore, St Louis, Philadelphia, etc."
