GRADE: A+

The good: What is there not to like about the job? It has everything you want as a coach. LSU has a tradition rich program with very high expectations. The Baton Rouge community loves college baseball and LSU’s fan support is only paralleled by Arkansas and Mississippi State. In addition to the vast resources and fan support, the Tigers have excellent facilities and have some in-state advantages from a recruiting standpoint. LSU also has a national brand from a recruiting standpoint, and can extend its tentacles from coast-to-coast. There are few programs who can say they do that. LSU is a one of a kind type of opportunity.

The bad: The LSU job can be the absolute best in college baseball. But if you aren’t winning at an elite level, it can be one of the worst. One of the beautiful things about LSU fans is that they’re passionate and care a lot about college baseball and their team’s success. On the flip side, that sometimes breeds some unrealistic expectations. LSU can be an absolute pressure cooker, but if you head to Baton Rouge knowing that and can handle it, it’s a dream job and scenario. For me, it’s very much worth the headache.

I expect many of the ultra-knowledgable couch coaches on tRant to apply for the job.

No doubt about that.

“Unrealistic expectations”

We were a whisker away from missing the SECT. That would be finishing 13th out of 14 teams.

Last year we were worse. Covid saved us.

You are lying to yourself if you think LSU fans have realistic expectations for the program. I don’t want that to change it’s what keeps you striving to be the best but it is still a thing. It’s the only school in America that will even think about firing a coach for not winning enough in Omaha.

Who is this "clear-cut No. 1 candidate" that Kendall Rogers is hinting at?

The only bad they can come with is the old “I care too much” answer like you give in an interview about your biggest weakness.

Everyone keeps repeating this, but don’t forget we had Cole Henry, healthy Jaden Hill, Marceaux, and Labas. Also Fontenot at the top of his game and healthy Matt Beck.

We still had D Cab, Garza and Doughty was coming into his own as well. Arnold would have taken over the SS spot, Dugas and Gio as well. You could make an argument we would’ve been better last year

That’s an insult. Especially Arkansas. No fan base travels for baseball like LSU.

Van Horn already has time vested in the Louisiana State system from his time at Northwestern State. Maybe?
