Chill out baw the posting isn't even live yet
Coach Geyer only made $100k/yr. The facilities aren't in good shape. The team culture is toxic and it's headed up from the top by the staff.
I've done more research on this than I care to admit because I joked about applying myself last night. It's my opinion that LSU Swimming, as it stands right now, doesn't need a home run big name hire to improve, it just needs a strong manager and motivator who understands the sport, who is willing to clean house and take some time to change the trend of the program. The damage is systemic, it will take time for any coach to be competitive in the SEC right now.
I think this hire will tell us a lot about how Woodward operates, since brute forcing it with a big name and big spend isn't likely to work here.
tl;dr - words, team culture sucks, Tigers can be very good

I got a Kim Mulkey “overreaction” dig here. And I agree.

If we HIRE the best and RECRUIT the best then coach them up to be the BEST, if they then produce in the water then we’ll be UNSTOPPABLE!

I'm telling you, bring back the Woodburns. He knows LSU and would gladly take the Jon. He'd have no problems cleaning house.

With what money? The athletic department is already operating in a massive deficit due to Covid. They have also made significant promises to the basketball program. I do not want a sacrificing what needs to be done for basketball just saw that swimming and diving can improve enough to finish middle of the pack in the SEC

The only answer is to bring back Ricky Meador

I’m CONVINCED. I didn’t even know swimming was a SPORT at Lsu until now but op has me FIRED up about SWIMming with their posting style. A BIGTIME swim hire here could put La on the MAP.
We can get a dolphin to coach for all I care

Just to be clear, what are your thoughts on the mulkey hire?

Well put. I had a swimmer who recently committed to Louisville and she asked me about LSU along the recruiting process. Told her flat out, "do not even answer LSU's calls." The program is a wreck.

Thought you people from La. could step it up and quit settling for a loser program
Is this supposed to be a gotcha or something? I didn’t even know we had a loser program because no one gives a frick about swimming. I wouldn’t watch swimming if we were #1 in the country every year and Michael Phelps came out of retirement to swim on our team, and that’s coming from someone who watches gymnastics, women’s basketball, and even less common sports. Just thought it was weird that you’re in such a frenzy about it

I think hiring KIM Mulkey was AWESOME!!
Brilliant hire!!
She is a great leader and a WINNER! Never been to LSU womens basketball game and now I cant wait to see Mulkey in action.

My daughter was a collegiate swimmer. Coming out of HS, she wasn't SEC caliber, but did receive a few offers from smaller schools and ended up at Centenary.
However, some of the top swimmers she competed against received offers from top programs across the country. But not LSU. The roster then was mostly international. I realize that mightve been a way to have a highly competitive team, but it rubs coaches the wrong way. And it does little to build fan support, or a culture.
