Of the incoming freshmen I'm intrigued by is Bryce Langston.

I'm intrigued because he was a highly ranked recruit that kind of flew under the radar. He was highly recruited by FSU, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and others but his recruitment seemed quiet. IIRC the rumor was he potentially had grade problems. During his recruitment, there was talk that he was under ranked primarily due to grade issues. But apparently he got is academic issues cleared up and is now enrolled at LSU.

Also if you search and look at his highlights which there are a limited amount, what pops out immediately is his strength. Langston is STRONG. He man handles high school kids with ease.

I can see Langston getting early playing time on the DL rotation and by the middle of the season becoming solid cog in the DE rotation.

I could also see this kid getting bigger and moving inside on the DL next year or the following year.

O has talked him up a ton. Outside of Maason Smith he's definitely the one I'm most excited about on the DLine. I dont know if he makes any real playing time impact this season but if we lose a handful of guys on the Dline going into 2022 he may be the one to watch out for. He also can be a bit of a tweener between DT and DE giving him some versatility depending on down/distance.

Ed Orgeron LOVES him. Believes he’s one of the best defensive lineman they’ve recruited in his time. Thought I misheard him once, but he’s said it multiple times. And Ed O knows D lineman if not anything else. Langston sure was a five star who fell probably because of grades. Can’t wait to see him and Maason wreak havoc.

He reminds me of a young Solomon Thomas.

He won't be facing HS kids this season.

That's not to say he won't be good, but (IMO) I'm not expecting him to make a big impact right away. He's a bit of a "tweener". He's built more like a DT, but he played standing up as a DE in HS. He's probably a bit too short to be a DE and (right now) a bit too light to be an impact DT. Particularly with LSU seeming to go two or three deep at that spot this season (Farrell/Logan; Roy/Smith; Evans/Guillory.

I think he's a RS candidate who they are going to try to bulk up this season

Going to be a hell of a penetrating powder keg of a DT

Does anyone know how recruiting sites get these kids grades? It’s interesting how the recruiting sites can degrade a player based on their grades.

Good question. My guess is the scouts that work for the recruiting sites talk to the parents, coaches or friends of the recruit or simply ask him directly about his grade situation.

Probably university connections.

And a lot of times it will show up in the offer sheets. Like it did with Justin Jefferson

Really excited for him. If the sites would just stick to football and not grades. Bryce is a top tier football player, but maybe not a top “recruit” because of grades… the irony of recruiting sites.

Thanks Captain Obvious. Always get a kick out of people that in response to a poster saying a freshman is going to be a good one, feel the need to say the words of wisdom, "this isn't HS". No f*cking chit

I'm going to go with Armoni Goodwin at a position where we need a playmaker. He hasn't been talked about much on this board but he's a top 100 player and ranked the 5th best RB in the nation. He ran a 10.78 100m as a freshman in high school! Excited to see what he can do!

This is why I like him. He can play in multiple schemes I think. We need to build the DL army up again. It's not coincidence we run shite when we roll 7-9 deep down there.

Correct and he will no longer be a HS kid.

After going though camp he will be a grown man.

Depends on how fast he grasps the offense. Had he been an early enrollee I would say for sure

Height only matters for DL insofar as it correlates with weight/frame and length.

It doesn't matter if you're 6' flat--as long as you've (1) got the frame to hold enough good weight, and (2) got long arms, then you've got the ability to be a stand-out pass-rusher. The only reason that most pass-rushers do happen to fall in the 6'4"/6'5" range is because those guys are more likely than shorter guys to have long arms and sufficient heft without getting too bulky. But if a guy *does* have long arms and *can* carry ~260lbs of good weight, his height is a pretty irrelevant consideration.

I dk what type of wingspan Bryce Langston has, but if he's up there in the 33", then his height shouldn't concern anyone. He's undoubtedly got the frame to hold like 270 good pounds.

Wouldn’t you say the number one attribute recruiting sites are looking at is can he play? If you can’t get into school, you can’t play.

This is all personal, but I would say if you’re a football recruiting site you look at their football ability. The sites should say these are our top HS football players in the country, regardless of GPA or grades. If his on the field performance is stellar he should not be devalued for poor grades imo.
